He's taller than Wemby afaik. Much heavier as well. You can't realistically play these freaks more than 15 minutes a night without them losing their kneecaps.
He does look better than anyone thought but cmon it's preseason. Kelvin Cato looked like the next great big man in preseason.
I've been a proponent of Edey for a minute. People on this board and even management just wanted to try to make something fit vs going opposite of what the league is doing. His size and skill are going to be a problem for teams like the Rockets. He's not a 1 dimensional player either. Will he have some issue in space? Sure, but we've seen that with some of the best bigs to play. He, JJJ, and Bane are gonna have a field day offensively. The Rockets should've drafted him at 3 because he's gonna make them a more efficient offensive but also a better defensive team. It's done now, I just don't like the way this is headed. Yeah, it's preseason, but vs Indy, he was scoring over Turner with ease.
I watch alot and played d1. Who's to say they couldn't play together? What is so special about what Smith Jr is doing?
Doesn't really matter, they drafted a better player than Edey. So even if they could have gone super big with 2 centers, it wouldn't be an upgrade
I like Edey - I think he will be one of the better centers in the league. Alpi will put him in the blender though. Could have seen him next to Alpi, too. Alpi/Edey would be better than Alpi/Bari. But as @TEXNIFICENT said...what's done is done. Am super happy with the Reed pick, even though I think Edey will be ROY.
I liked Memphis grabbing Edey and the obvious comp for him is Rik Smits. I think Edey has more defensive upside since his wingspan is nearly 6 inches longer. It’s going to be fun watching him go up against Wemby this year.
I think if you put edey, brooks, sengun together you could challenge for the worst offense in history.
That is easy to predict because big guys at their size have proven to have severe injuries. And he spent 3 years at College (Purdue) entering the NBA at age 22-23......3 years later than Reed. This is also the reason his game is more mature than Reed but would not have a lot of years in the NBA.
Reed's goal should not be to be compared to Edey but compare to the likes of Flagg, Bailey, Harper and Dybantsa who will enter with more expectations. Creme of the crop.
Flagg and Bailey? Cmon man, I’d be shocked if Reed was anywhere near those guys. I hope so though, That would be great for the Rockets
