I'm not an Edey guy; mid draft range seems like the correct range. But would anyone be surprised if Edey ended up being a better prospect than Clingan? Never know with these kind of things: seems like a 50/50 toss up right now.
I’m still not sure why kind of pro he will be, but I just have a feeling he will be much better than people realize. He works his ass off and he’s very well rounded. I am not big on following trends in the NBA. I think you get your guys that can make a difference and just be better. Make the other team adjust to you. Not sure I’d take Edey at 3 but it wouldn’t hurt my feelings a bit if the Rockets were able to draft him somehow.
This is EXACTLY where I am on this!!! I don’t think Edey is worth a top 10 pick…but he ate Clingan’s lunch in the title game, so I can’t really believe that Clingan is somehow a higher pick unless Clingan just improves a ton Edey seems to have a strong work ethic, but I don’t think he’s gonna exceed the expectation…but I’d kinda love if he did because that means he has some dog in him. Some real Jamal Shead energy …who not coincidentally I pray is our 2nd round pick!!
Good or bad….just appreciate all the great responses in this thread and honestly quite surprised at the high level of support for Edey. Hoping the Rockets find a way to nab him with a trade down of the 3rd pick, but I’m conflicted because Sheppard has the potential to be just what this team needs in terms of shooting. I rank Edey higher, but Sheppard is right there too. Just imagine Wembly and Edey in San Antonio, we struggled mightily against Minnesota last season and we’d be stuck watching Jabrari and Grandpa Green try to stop those very very tall players. Yes, we have Adams but no guarantees with injury and age. We really need Edey for more reasons than him being a beast of a player.
Edey is probably a 20mpg bench guy unless a team builds around him and runs 90’s style inside out game. Worth a look at 44 if he falls
every year people in the draft hype up potential over good basketball players. this is no different. Edey will be a good basketball player because he already is one.

The only thing I question is his lateral quickness, and what he does in screen-roll. You can get around him. Only plays drop and you can get around him. He’s been protected for two years. He can score on anybody in the paint. He’s got legit post moves. College assistant coach No. 3 (his team played Purdue): He’s dominant. He was a presence in college. Will he be able to do the same at the next level? I really don’t know. Will he be able to guard pick and roll? I would think he would not be a starter in that league. Probably will be better with second-line guys. You have to do some type of scheme. From an analytical perspective, will that make sense? I doubt he’s going to shoot 60, 70 percent from the floor. Lateral quickness, he tries. But we put him in pick-and-roll situations. Definitely can’t switch. But he’s intriguing. I don’t know if he’ll be dominant enough to stay on the floor at the offensive end. He is a physical presence out there. It’s not like he’s avoiding contact. He likes contact. The difference between him and Clingan is just that Clingan is a better athlete: more mobile, pick and rolls, it’s night and day. I think guys liked playing with (Edey) even though he was the guy. Western Conference executive No. 1: The one thing about Edey is, if you give him the ball, he’s gonna get you some buckets. … Rudy (Gobert) never dropped 35 points in a national championship game against another first-round pick. When I first saw him, I thought ‘backup.’ But he really came on. Now, admittedly you’re going to have to have a coach that really wants him. But if he’s your third- or fourth-best player offensively, you’re pretty good.
If the Rockets pick Sheppard and skip on Clingan for the third pick, maybe they can move up and grab Edey. Could be a good backup big to develop behind Adams.
If they could get both Sheppard and Edey it would be the best draft of all time. Only realistic way to do it would be to trade 3 to Portland for 7 &14 and then say some prayers that both these guys drop a couple spots.
Some mock drafts have Edey dropping to the late first round. Not sure if that would happen, but maybe he's this draft's Whitmore.
