When the Rockets do shoot the mid-ranged shot it is generally uncontested. A rare opportunity and a good shot.
But we are comparing 15-18 footers to 21 footers, not to the under the rim, are we? 15-18 footer is just not the kind of shot you want unless we are talking about LMA, Dirk. So long as we pound inside hard and kick it out sometimes, I am fine. That is a trend of the game.
I don't know about that. The idea is to get the ball in the basket. Finishing is finishing. Harden can dunk and Parsons sometimes finishes "with authority" as does Dwight and sometimes Jones. But guys like Harden and Lin can finish around the rim great, whether it is through power or crafitiness, finishing is finishing. And Harden and Lin get to the line quite a bit, get quite a bit of and 1s as well. Especially Harden.
Right. Because Miami NEVER goes to the rim. http://www.teamrankings.com/nba/stat/points-in-paint-per-game Rockets 3rd, Miami 5th. Seems like Miami's a lot less lazy than you believe.
we all hate the mavs....at least I do. but man, dirk has been torching us with that damn mid range shot for years. deron Williams and derrick rose have great mid range games too. I really like lin, parson, and harden's jumper.
I think the main argument for incorporating more mid-range into the offense is to provide a safety net for when the 3-point shot isn't falling or when an opposing defense is geared towards covering the 3-point shot closely. Is there evidence that a team which shoots relatively fewer shots from mid-range is much more "streaky" and more likely to have really poor offensive games? Could be an interesting thing for someone to investigate. Always good to have numbers which backup what seems like common sense.
and Dwight is neutralized and Harden, Lin, Parsons are having their shots altered or blocked when they drive. If 3s are falling, they we're OK. If they aren't falling for anyone, then you have to score another way or give the defense another look or possibility to get some of the shot blockers a little bit away from the paint. They won't go out 23 feet, but they may go out 12 feet and clear a lane for a cutter.
You miss the point! If you watched the Memphis game, James Johnson finished with authority, he had 3 straight dunks; it energized the Griz and demoralized the Rockets in the first half. The same way Durant and Serge Ibaka dunked on the Rockets in the first half.....I think the Rockets knew, they couldn't match that energy tonight.
Moreyball at its finest. Kill the mid-ranged shot. It is and will remain as such. The Rockets will be last in the league in taking mid-ranged shots for as long as Morey is GM. A long time.
Only because Pat Bevs and Omer Asik are out.... When Lin and Asik played from the bench, the bench was fine.
Isn't the theory still the same - pretty simple - draw a double team either through post up or penetration to create an open shot? I don't know if we're getting these open shots. I'm curious as to whether we can't draw double teams or what the deal is.
This argument only works if players are capable of actually choosing their shots. But how many players can do this? There's a reason why all the examples in this thread, Dirk, Hakeem, MJ, are all superstars. Because the Steve Kerrs and Shane Battiers of the world don't spend their time shooting mid-range shots. I'm all for the long 2, as long as they're being shot by players like KG, Ray Allen, or Dirk.
I know what you're saying but any type of energy play energizes the crowd. Blocks, coast to coasts dunks and +1s, steals and fast breaks, even huge 3 pointers or back to back 3 pointers or someone getting hot from 3 will do it. T
I agree when 3s are not falling, a energy guy like him would be great who will drive in with authority, if Garcia 3 is not falling its bad out there
Garcia - average Casspi - average Brewer - below average Brooks - average Smith - average Lin- above average Omer - average (this yr.) Cannan - waaaaay below average LIKE I SAID....THIS BENCH IS HORRIBLE
