Perhaps... but really i think most any system is better than 'hero ball'... id say the question is... do we need a #1 option - or do we simply need a closer? and before u say that they r the same thing... Big Shot Bob was closer... but he wasnt the #1 option... or even #2 for that matter... lol. If we could get a slight upgrade on a couple starters... and add a clutch shooter (or is it sheppard?) would that be enough?
I miss the old times when it was crystal clear from your 3rd year that you are a bench player......it was clear cut.
The biggest reason to not want to come here would be the fit, assuming his goal is to win a championship. He likes playing with shooters, he hates playing center, and he doesn't do well when the paint is packed. We are 0/3 on these. I think if the FO wants to convince Giannis to come to Houston it's likely they would have to show him a plan to overhaul the roster.
This past series with Golden State in game 7. Camera man showed a close up his eyes and I could tell he had it. Right before the 1st half ended. He had that drive where Draymond tried to block it and he missed and and slammed back home. Then he had a drive that shouldve been blocked but somehow hung in the air long enough to scoop it in. The look in his eyes were reminiscent of Michael Jordan. Not saying he will be Jordan, but he has that killer instinct and confidence. So he will go to work in the off-season. Amen will work on his weaknesses and we will see a big jump from year 2 to 3. That's all you can ask for.
Other than Sengun no one in this team has offense. He ranks #1 in all playoff stats.. Points,Rebounds,Asists.. Other than him everyone in this team including Amen tradeble..
When is the last instance of a guy coming into the league who couldn’t shoot, learning how to shoot efficiently?
Green is a star, it may take some time with him. I mean seriously he just turn 23 and in the month of January he avg 25.7 ppg that month and We played tough teams too like Boston, Lakers, Cavs, Memphis. If he is struggling with his shooting, and Fred is getting the touches because he gets pulled or he not into the offensive, In warriors series, they shut him down, after the 2nd game because this is what he is usually able to do, but they focused on shutting him down because the rockets when he is hot blow out teams. 1: They need to run more plays for him to drive to the basket. 2: They will need to find another way for him to be effective in the offense. Say what you will but he can be effective he finds his way.
Kind of a hot take but I really liked Jimmy Butler and hoped we would have signed him to that 1-2 year extension. I understand the inherent risks such as injury prone, age, being a diva and giving up some assets but I think his ability to close games and generate good offensive looks would have helped this team dramatically. He is averaging almost 5 assists a game and is a good defender which would help him fit into Ime's system. It also would have accelerated the development of our young stars to have them playing in meaningful games this time of year. I hope Stone makes a move this offseason because not doing anything at the deadline really limited this season. I understand it was a trial season but now that we see what the team is Stone needs to work some magic to fix our deficiencies for next year. If we don't get a number 1 option or atleast a closer before next year then I really don't understand the point of just punting this 50+ win season away.
Nah Jalen's problem is his mentality. He didn't even try to win us those games against Golden State, he just folded and let us lose. He wasn't aggressive and wasn't attacking Buddy Hield for Christ sake. Completely inexcusable performance period. He doesn't have the mentality to be a number 1 option or a closer and that's what we need from his position. Empty stats don't mean anything when you play like complete dog water for 6 games of a 7 game series. Stop defending him because I bet you the locker room also has no respect from him anymore. Sengun and Amen were battling every game while Jalen only showed up to play in game 2. He is going to get traded, his time here is done.
that’s up to the NBA to make players goto college for 3-4 years .. then instead of drafting kids on potential you are now drafting with a pretty good idea on their strengths atleast
There are so many, I can probably cite a dozen off the top of my head while drunk (which I am right now). But I don't want to type all that sh*t up. But LaMelo Ball jumps to mind--25% on 3Pers (worse than Amen's stats in OTE) in Australian ball, 36.5% career 3P% so far in the NBA
4 years of low 40 fg% and low to mid 30 3p% with literally no progress on any of his numbers across the board even with his improvement in defense is enough to know that Jalen is not the guy who should be starting moving forward. There are PLENTY of SG's out there with much higher shooting efficiency and playmaking. Really just time to move on.
I know everyone wants that star player to take the Rockets to the next level, and standing pat is boring, but we should remember how young this team is. Not every player’s going to pan out, but overall there still should be a ton of natural improvement over the next few years. There’s no reason to jump at the next available “superstar” if the price isn’t right. We can afford to wait yntil the right deal comes along. This is a boring but enviable position to be in.
That's not a good example. He was only 18 1/2 when drafted and was shooting 38.9% from the 3 and had a FT % of 87.2 in his second year. Amen is nowhere close to that.
Evan Mobley? from 25% to 37% Lu Dort? from 30% to 41% Just a couple of recent ones off my head. I'm sure there are more currently and in the past.
Jaylen Brown in college shot 29% from three and 65% from the FT line. 36% career 3P shooter in the NBA. Pascal Siakam was effectively a non-shooter in college and 71% from the FT line, shot 22% from three his first two seasons combined and 64% from the FT line. 35% from three on 4 attempts since year 3. Josh Giddey, 29% from three in Australia before getting drafted, 69% from the FT line. Started out as a 26% three point shooter in the NBA, now shooting 38% on four attempts per game this season. It's actually pretty common, like I said I could go on and on. It's probably the easiest skill for guys to pick up under NBA coaching these days. Which isn't to say everybody can do it, but I think Amen has shown enough signs of improvement and touch and has fluid enough athleticism and enough dexterity that I feel very confident he can at least become a decent shooter that keeps defenders honest. He's very clearly not like, say, Steven Adams in this regard--night and day difference between him and your typical "hopeless big man" type of shooter who can never figure it out.
