Really good teams don't need hype; everybody wants to see them and few care about anything else. During the "glory years" at UH, the place was rocking an hour before game time, it was incredible. Did the vintage Lakers, Celtics, Pistons, Bulls or Rockets worry about their intro? Naw, they were the show!
The drums are weak. I was 12 rows up from the court at the Trailblazer game and couldn't hear them all that great. Maybe if they put a Microphone next to them it would help. Still, nobody was excited with that intro, it was dead.
Here's an idea to get the crowd into the intros/game: Have a rocket (NOT the old one) 'propel' throughout the ribbon board around the stadium. When the rocket passes by the section of the stadium, the crowd would get up or yell or whatever (similar to the wave). If during the intros, have a spotlight over the sections the rocket follows. Then, once the rocket makes 5 or so revolutions (maybe for a countdown?), have it end at a point where it would 'explode' and cause fireworks to go off. That would be a pretty cool graphic. And I think LOTR song would make for a dramatic intro, but I still the 'techno' intro of old was the best. AND PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD ENOUGH WITH THE YAO MING MIDI!!!! I'm not in Houston, but hearing it on TNT/ESPN is so annoying. I'm not saying the song is a bad copy off of 'Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole' (just kidding Chance), but the midi version sounds awful. I think an audio clip of Bill Walton (uuuuuugh ) yelling 'Throw it down BIG man! Throw it down!' would be better (at least on dunks).
Rockets should play the following song as their intro or before the game...maybe it will get the players pumped up to play...but then again it may also make them eat the song lyrics at the end of the game..
