If you look at the team record when Francis does well versus when Ming does well, we tend to win more games via Francis. Now, that might be because the teams key on Francis more, so if he is playing well that means he is REALLY playing well, but I think it is because Francis is the point guard, so when he is at the top of his game he can involve EVERYONE on the floor as well as get his own. When Yao is playing well, it generally translates into more points for him, not necessarily more points for other players. For now, it is Steve. But Ming is giving him a run for his money.
I can't understand why MoT and Mobley are even included in the poll. We're talking about the team MVP, not who had one good month off the bench.
Mobley has started every game he has played in this year. The Rockets also seem to win every game in which Cat plays well. He is also one of twoplayers on the team that plays at a high level on both sides of the ball (the other is Yao Ming). Am I surprised that Cat only got 6 or so votes, no I am not. Am I disappointed, maybe a little. Based on the posts that I read bashing him, it is about what I expect from all of the "fans" on here that don't understand simple things like help defense.
It's silly that Yao is close. I know Yao will be the MVP in the near future, but it's absolutely SILLY to think it's not Steve this year. Why not co-MVP's you ask? Because Steve is more valuable this year. Ming isn't and wasn't well equipped to carry this team in his rookie season. Fact of the matter is, the Yao-less Rockets would beat the Francis-less Rockets. That's the truth.
Different peoples philosophy may lend to the whole "sparkplug" theory. Mo has played some big minutes and is VERY exciting when he is on his game. Cat has a lot of fans here too...but your point is well taken
Actually, Francis was an NBA all star without Yao, Mobley a top #2 threat, while Yao was a bush league star......Now they do pretty well together in the NBA. The Rox are a team, no need to diss one to make another look better. Steves the team MVP now..Yao later.
Definetly Stevie. Yao is a future MVP/Franchise player. Right now, it's still Stevie Franchise. Yao, and stevie must carry this team in the future. It's Yao's rookie season for crying out loud. Steve is the man. enough said. ...in time...Yao will be in this category.
Well said, Stupid'. I admit, I've been very-very tough on Mobley and maybe some of my criticism of him has been unfair. I would like nothing more than for the Rox to have THREE star players (although Cat will always be third behind Yao and Stevie; that's just the way it will be). My criticism has been about him not wanting to accept a third-option roll more than anything else. But, I also concur that given the fact he had to step his game up last season with the absence of Francis, it's gotta be "one step forward, two steps back" kind of thing for him witht eh emergeance of Yao. No, I haven't fully loosened my stance on Mobley (that he needs to be more of a team player), but I will acknowledge he'g gotten better and could improve on this team (not having to make him a sixth-man). We shall see!
Also well said. Yao has been very valuable for the Rockets this season, though, even with this being his rookie year.
