Totally not a bash against Yao, just believe that JJ brought the most to the table, not all of it statistical either. Me I’m totally a ROF (Rockets only fan). As long as they are on my team, I’m gonna cheer for them.
I don't see any player got bashed here. But the results certainly shows Rockets fans are not objective. That explains why players got bashed so hard after each loss. JJ is considered MVP mainly because he did what he was supposed to do , not actual contribution to Rockets. He was the "best" player because fans didn't expect him to score more or rebound more. That reminds me how Amare got the ROY last year. Yet Rockets fans complained loudly at that time.
Sure it does...who said it didn't? It has no bearing on the fact that the same YM didn't show up in April as we saw in February. I didn't think even the most blinded YOF could argue this in good faith, but since I see people claiming that he wasn't inconsistent I guess I was wrong. Please note this is not a bash on Yao, just on YOF's who can't admit that he isn't perfect. I like Yao and feel that he is probably the best player on the team.
I don't think anyone would say Yao is perfect...thats something Juugie would say. But to say Yao leads in all those categories is merely "the law of averages" is taking away from what he's done for the Rockets this year. Sure he was inconsistent, but he's the most consistent player on this team...if you're saying he's inconsistent with 17/9 on 53% ,then what does that say about the rest of our team?
he would say something like yao is perfectly imperfect, and he is who he is, and will be a career 14-7 player a la Rik Smits.
LOL, I actually meant to say that Juugie is the only person that thinks there are people on this board who would say 'Yao is perfect and is destined to be the next Wilt'. Nobody has EVER said that but he's so convinced that its being said daily.
what? Yao is AWESOME. I see him being better than Wilt. He already shoots FTs better. Yao is perfect, just like the Buddha. I will say this again the same time tomorrow.
He started off good, played really well in the middle of the season, and then played his worst ball of the season at the end. That's not the definition of consistent to me. The original poster was pointing to his cumulative averages as evidence of his consistency....that's just factually and logically incorrect. A player who scores 90 points one night and 0 points the next is going to have the highest average on the team...that doesn't make him consistent.
that's true. but A) it remains to be argued if JJ was more consistent than Yao B) consistency != value
That is the reason I cast my vote for Yao. When opposing teams play Houston, it is Yao that they have to adjust their game plan for. JJ would have been my runner-up.
anyway... nice poll. though i voted for yao i agree that JJ has been the glue for this team this year. no one should ever pine for Posey because JJ did more than Posey would have. also if you asked Yao, i bet he'd agree to the poll results.
Yeah, but every player on the Rockets have had times during the year when they've been bad and good games...you make it seem like Yao is the exception because of the time he chose to have the bad ones. I agree with you, Yao is our best player, perhaps thats why people are so critical about his late season drop in performance, they expect greatness everytime he steps on the floor. Still, I can't believe people think JJ is our MVP, yeah he's consistent...but he still isn't as consistent or important on both ends of the court as Yao.
It's none of the above, although JJ has been the "glue." It's JVG for his efforts in transforming our defense, and for instilling in the troops the concept of team & what it takes to compete..really compete. We don't fully have it yet but we're gettin' it. What I'm seeing in the playoffs validates JVG as our MVP. D R
P==player, right? Anyway, Yao's honeymoon is officially over. It seems more fans would rather keep JJ than Yao if one of them has to go. That's good news for the rest of the league.
I was going to vote for either Mobley or JJ but upon further review, I realized that we would not have done squart without the big guy in the middle - effective or not. Yao made our defense better. His mere presence changes other teams plans and made our team better. He gave us hope for the unseen. I strongly believe that if we rationally look at it, his absence could and would have affect our team the most. There is a reason why the JJs and Mobs of the world are cheap - because they can be easily replaced. Finally, only one Rocket played all 82 games this season; Yao. Perspectively speaking, that we are having this debate or arguement is testament to how poor and inconsistent Yao really was this season. Under normal circumstance (and considering all the support he was given) he should been the run away MVP of this without a close second.
I haven't seen one reply that would indicate that. Obviously the title of this thread is who do you think the MVP is, not who would you rather keep.
