There has got to be a deadline for Detroit to declare what they are doing with the pick..right? Anyone know when that would be?

The Rockets would've picked Rashard if he had fallen to where we picked Mobley.

Well, we obviously didn't get the 23rd pick this year, but barbourdg, I'm still curious as to what your source was on this news article.

I think most of us understood that we traded the Turckan pick for Morris, but the quote from this article leads us to believe we have to give Atlanta a pick by 2004, which could be the Detroit pick, but doesn't have to be...

Good going Sherlock. It would have been nice to get the 23thpick this year, but can you or anyone else tell me are we likely to get the 38th pick this year or are we going to retain the 53th pick?

According to this Houston Chronicle article, we should get the 38th pick, unless Atlanta gives us something/somebody to keep us from taking it.

    Picked off

-- The Rockets will have the 38th pick of the draft, unless they don't. Up to seven days before the draft, the Rockets can switch second-round picks with Miami, taking the 38th pick and sending the 53rd pick to the Heat as part of the Hakeem Olajuwon sign-and-trade deal with Toronto. The only reason to wait is to allow the Heat time to consider rewarding the Rockets for staying where they are.

But the pick is a touch better than it sounds. If the Rockets claim the 38th pick of the draft, the player they choose will be the 37th taken.

For what it's worth, the NBA will call the first pick in the second round the No. 30 pick overall. It is not. It is the No. 29 pick. Because Minnesota was stripped of its first-round choice after of its secret Joe Smith deal, the draft will jump from pick No. 28 (Sacramento) to No. 30 (Chicago).

Sherlock, I will have to check a few places (its been awhile since I started this thread). I think the story came from a newspaper, citing that we have the option on passing it down to them (their team) for the Morris trade. The key thing was that we had the option. Its very possible the newpaper got the facts wrong.
