no, It's just about other RFA in this market getting offers from their teams before his client did. Lowry fit here nicely and if it wasn't for Morey he'd be getting half this much because he was a 3rd string PG in Memphis.
go all out? thats the 1st offseason move of the offeseason (besides PP). He better sign another mid level player for us (a C hopefully).
You mean if the Cavs offered JJ Hickson and/or their First round pick next year, you wouldn't take it for Lowry?
Statistically, you’re wrong. Haven’t and don’t care to look up Duhon, but Ridnour generally played better. You can definitely make the argument that Kyle is younger and has more room to improve (though it would be somewhat foolish to expect considerable improvement in his shot at this point). Plus, we know Kyle is a great “fit” and has the FT knack that Morey loves. Still, in similar minutes last year they put up similar production, except Luke had a meaningfully better PER, fg%, 3 point %, effective fg%, true shooting %, offensive rating and defensive rating. He got similar total dollars, but obviously a good amount less per year. This contract is too much for Lowry. He will be getting overpaid. That’s okay. Again, he is a fit, plays well with AB and leading the second unit, and while it doesn’t mean AB goes on the block, it certainly allows for that possibility, which is good. True, but you’d think Morey would at least engage in talks, whereas the article made it sound like he didn’t do even that. Perhaps he did and the conclusion is just that there was no acceptable deal. While I doubt the Cavs would do it, if I’m Morey, I’d be happy to take Daniel Gibson, for example, if a relatively unprotected near term first round pick came with it…say the Cavs 2011 or 2012 lotto pick. Why would Cleveland do this? They do get out from Gibson’s contract, but I honestly don’t know…apparently they really liked Kyle. Anyway, I’m glad Kyle is back. It’s impossible not to like the guy and root for him, etc. I really really really hope he isn’t one of the got paid so don’t need to work as hard guys. He needs to be in the gym working on his shot as often and regularly as he can. And it would benefit him, too. If he was even an average shooter, he’d be a very very solid PG. If he could hit 42%-45% overall while shooting 37%-40% from three, with the rest of his game, he’d be flat out great. Unfortunately for most of his career he’s been a high 30’s/low 40’s FG shooter, under 30% on threes.
Ridnour is the exception to the rule. Check out the PER, WS/48 and defensive ratings of Duhon and Steve Blake, both of which got $16 mil for four year ype deals, and compare them to Lowry. It's an absolute night and day difference. Just because Ridnour is underpaid doesn't make Lowry overpaid.
Agree totally. Lowry got to decide what he was worth by signing the offer sheet. If he thought he was worth more, he should have held out for it. If his agent thought that was a poor contract, he should have advised Lowry against it. There is really no other way to handle a restricted free agent than how the Rockets handled this. Lowry wanted the opportunity to be a starter. this allowed him to see what teams wanted him to be a starter and how they would have compensated him for it. If the Cavs were going to pay him $6M to be a starter, he should be happy the Rockets matched and he can now play for a better team and only have to work 25 minutes a game. This is a win for Lowry no matter what that d-bag Miller says. No wonder people hate agents so much.
I can see you never watched martin in the 4th qt. Martin is a catch and shoot type of scorer. Martin has never been a guy to create in the 4th qt. Now its cool if they get into the penalty, but the 4th qt,especially in the playoffs are about making shots. If you have a superstar, you will get some fouls called, but last i checked, the rockets don't have any of those.
I'm trying to imagine Kyle Lowry listening to his agent on this one: "Kyle, we got an offer from Cleveland" "Man, I don't want to go to no *****ing Cleveland" "It's just a bluff, Houston will match" "I better not end up in no *****ing Cleveland or you're fired"
Now that Kyle Lowry is making big money, it will be hard not to take him seriously as a potential starting point guard. Aaron Brooks is a great shooter, but that is only one part of the game - a part that can be delivered from off of the bench, as demonstrated by Carl Landry before he was traded. Now that Kyle is receiving starter's money, no one should be surprised to see him given the chance to win the starters job this year. While Aaron Brooks is the better shooter, Kyle Lowry is the better point guard. If Coach Adelman opens this contest up to the player that gives the Rocket's team the best overall chance to win, then Kyle Lowry will have an excellent chance to take over the starting point guard job this year.
Great post, but I can't see Lowry shooting 37%-40% from behind the arc. That's asking way too much of him. He hasn't shot over 30% from three in any season unless you count 3 for 8 a large enough sample size. I'd be happy just to see him improve to 30% from behind the arc, or at least to the point where teams have to somewhat respect his ouside shooting ability, but that just doesn't seem likely. Remember, he is just a career 26% shooter when it comes to three-pointers, so as of right now, let's just ask him to improve to 30%. Then we can start worrying about 37%-40%.
I have watched Martin in the fourth quarter, and there's more to Martin's offensive game than catching and shooting. It's funny what some poster's love for AB will blind them to. Let's not forget what playing with Yao on the floor will do for Martin's perimeter game. AB is not our ONLY option in crunch time.
