not really. We have a ton of expiring contracts coming off the books next year. Lowry is young (24) and considering the price players get on the open market this is a reasonable deal.
Again, he still can use the full 7 days. All he's done is tell twitter that the Rockets will match. That could very well mean, "We plan to match the offer.. in 6 days."
Well, definitely with the Rockets trying to stay competitive, they needed to sign Lowry. The Rockets did not lose a beat when Lowry came into the game. The Rockets had two very capable point guards. Brooks / Lowry is a must. We all know all too well about injuries in the NBA, and point guards are so important to teams. Good going Morey.
We're well over the cap with or without Lowry. This has no significance as far as potential trades go. The only thing this means is that we'll likely end up paying luxury tax this year. This contract and Ariza's are not overpaying -- both players are getting what the market dictates at the time of their free agency, and both are valuable role players. Just because we have a bunch of bargains on our roster does not mean we are overpaying when we give mid-level players what they are worth.
I'm curious. Could Kyle decline the Rockets' match and just accept the one year qualifying offer and become a FA next year?
Err, a twitter announcement doesn't constitute a signed contract. Morey probably will wait a week but he announces it early to take the suspense out.
hell yeah. man, our bench is gonna be monstrous this season. sure, we couldn't make any big moves, so our starters might not be able to match up with the elite teams, but our bench is going _destroy_ everyone elses' bench. I'll also still have my fingers crossed for Brad Miller (don't like Hill at C)
its not the full MLE in both years and money and the 4th year @ 7million is a team option considering that duhon, blake and ridnour all got deals at 4 million/year getting a younger more versatile Lowry at 5.2/year does seem like a bargain to me like I said if the Rockets and their staff project Lowry's value to be 6 million or higher they match this deal even if others think he is being overpaid. it may sound like a lot for a backup but I feel that he will be a starter soon for THIS team
THANK YOU DM THE GM FOR DOING SOMETHING POSITIVE THIS OFF SEASON...Kyle is the only thing making our second unit worth a damn
there's no way we can get rid of Yao and Battier. Sure they're expiring contracts but they will probably return with sizeable contracts as well. They're championship caliber guys, can't get rid of them. Jeffires is gone but thats just 1 expiring
He's right. http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#Q37 THIS is probably what happened with Anthony Morrow and New Jersey. However, that is only for a SIGNED offer sheet. Not a MATCHED offer sheet. Now that the offer sheet has been signed AND matched, I think it's a moot point. I don't think Lowry can be traded to Cleveland for one year. Period. No sign and trade is happening. Otherwise, the Rockets simply would have negotiated a sign-and-trade deal IN LIEU OF matching.
He's already signed this offer sheet with the Cavs. Once you sign an offer sheet with another team there's only two options: 1. Go to the Cavs at the contract amount. 2. Stay with the Rockets at the contract amount. Edit: Forgot to mention 3. All three parties (Cavs, Rockets, Lowry) can decide to rip up this offer. But I don't see why that would happen.
PDcavsinsider #Cavs attempted to get Rockets to do a sign-and-trade for Kyle Lowry before doing offer sheet. HOU declined so not a surprise match at all.
Interesting. They really have nothing to offer to us that I can see, so no surprise that nothing was worked out.
He is a man of his word. I honestly didn't think he would match. Good step in making sure we don't lose what we have. Hope this does not hinder any FA possibilities in February or next summer.
