Stop imagining things. If you think Brooks is going anywhere due to the Lowry signing then you are kidding yourself. IF Brooks gets traded it will have nothing to do with Kyle's new contract. Having said that, DM is always looking to upgrade the team so no player is safe in that regard.
Didn't know where to post this but Morey wants a third string pg. Read more: http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archi..._looking_for_third_point_guard/#ixzz0thKgzyrW
We should do a sign and trade. I like Lowry alot. He's tough, good defensively and a good team player. But he doesn't offset AB 100%. Both lack the size to guard the bigger PGs in the game. Aside from that he doesn't show for deep well. Which is a common requirement for a pg and helps with spacing. Plus with our cap situation, we are overpaying even more. Hopefully, we can work out a sign and trade and maybe get a future first or a couple 2nd rounders and a trade exception. And then use that exception to get Sessions (not better than Lowry) or trade for TJ Ford (not sure who's better, Indy wants to dump him) or include Delonte West in deal or sign two guys on the cheap (Shaun Livingston + ?). There are plenty of options. I like Kyle but I think he's worth 5mil at most and we are paying more + tax.
YOU'RE the one who said Martin's closing out a game would be a first just saying that is not the case Martin has been able to be a late game person, maybe not the best but there is evidence of him being that. you went using an extreme i just refuted that extreme and I even posted in my response that Brooks has shot up the boards because of last season ALSO I'm not the only one who believes that too: Lowry (1986) is younger than Brooks (1986) and has far superior court vision, at this point in their respective careers I dont expect either of them to improve drastically in anything (Lowry will marginally improve his shooting and Brooks marginally his passing) I am not advocated that Lowry should start right away because he hasnt had a chance I am just saying that, imo again, Lowry's strengths help the starting five out much more once Yao is back and that I would not be surprised at all if the position is up for grabs in training camp that Lowry beats Brooks out. Both of them are good enough to be starters or excellent 6th men off the bench for sure. you expect Brooks to score a little under 2 points a game less than what he did last year with Yao back in the lineup? Going from 19.6 to 18.0 ppg? Where will Yao's points come from? The team averaged 102.4 points last year with the starters (the ones who ended the season - martin, brooks, ariza, scola, hayes) averaging 76.4 points..Yao's Career average is 19.1 I dont think he'll hit that at all next year so last say he averages 15 ppg which seems to be a reasonable figure. Martin's scoring average will probably go up as he becomes more comfortable in the system and playing off of Yao. Scola will probably go down a few points, Ariza's I expect to stay around the same as he'll spot up for 3s and slash for buckets..maybe down 2 points though. By that count if Yao averagings 15ppg -- if Scola goes back down to his career avg of 13 -- brooks to 18 (as you say) -- Ariza to 12 that is about 8 points right there and factor in Chuck's 4ppg (since Yao will be replacing Chuck) so you have 12ppg. And I have already said that I believe Martin's scoring will go up so those points will have to come from somewhere. I do not want to see those points come from the bench output since thats what kept us in games last year seeing the bench come in and put up 25-30 points a game. Brooks is going to suffer next year because he is a scoring PG and not a setup/passing PG like Lowry is. I like Brooks a lot but as of right now I feel if he can be traded for a shot-blocking center and a backup PG it would be better for the team as a whole. Lowry is a capable starter in this league, and not having a shotblocker in the game outside of Yao (whom is a huge ? right now in terms of production defensively) will hurt this team more than anything and Morey has said the team is looking to add a rim protecting C. Brooks is a valuable player move him with Jeffries expiring you can get that backup C and possible backup PG. Brooks is going to ask for way too much next year with the new CBA which I believe will end up being slightly less money but shorter contracts (3-4 years max instead of 5-6)
Where is this idea that Lowry has far superior court vision than Brooks coming from? I understand it's the accepted narrative, but it's not really rooted in anything factual. Lowry is just a marginally better passer than AB.
I cannot believe there are so many "Trade Brooks" posts on here. Trade him for who? We finally have two quality point guards after years of choosing sides between the likes of Mike James and Rafer Alston and now you want to trade one of them away? They both have excellent strengths which allow us to match up with anybody in the league at that position without missing a beat. Why would you trade that away? We need a backup big man, a four who can block shots and spread the floor. If the basketball gods smile on the excellent karma Yao has sown in his brief lifetime and we will be set. I hope AB retires a Rocket because he is going to be an All-Star caliber player.
People that want to trade Brooks are just wrong, Brooks is a very good starting PG in the NBA, he is a triple threat, and he only started one year. Speed kills, and Brooks has it in spades.....also SKILL kills and again Brooks has more than Lowry. I like Lowry, this is a tired argument..... The coaches already decided who is better....they start AARON BROOKS. I agree with the coaches ! DD
SO if the coaches decide that Lowry starts next year all of a sudden Lowry has more skill and is better? or when two seasons ago Rafer started over Brooks? if anyone has tired arguments around here its YOU
The only reason why I would trade Brooks (and filler) is if it nets us a superstar in return...someone who makes more money or similar money compared to what Brooks will undoubtedly command next year, but who is locked up for several years or commits to several years, and who is more valuable than Brooks. The only player I can think of right now is Chris Paul.
Congratulations. But I think it is a little bit high. DM just wants to show his courage to match the prices on the players he wants to stay. So I guess Scola will not get any proposal then.
You have been whining about me for a couple of months, tossing little barbs left and right, just stop making it personal and get back to basketball. Rafer deserved to start, until he didn't then he was traded, if Lowry can beat out Brooks then he should do it, he didn't do it last year, let's see if it happens this year. We don't always agree, no big deal, just because I believe that the coaches are correct in starting Brooks and you don't....doesn't mean we both don't like both players. Personally, I like what Kyle brings to the team, like it a lot....but I also recognize his biggest weakness, a lack of quality shooting from the perimeter is a killer in the NBA. Some players are exceptions, like Rondo, but he is much better than Lowry and not really a fair comparison....just an extreme case. IMO, you need to be able to score the ball, be a threat to score it....Brooks is better at that then Lowry, and they get to play together a lot. I don't get the folks that are dying to trade AB, as some sell high moment....has he peaked? After only one year as a starter? Why do people believe that Lowry will suddenly be able to shoot the ball, didn't we hear that last summer he was shooting a thousand jumpers a day, and his shot was going to improve, yet he shot a really bad overall FG%. Brooks from 3pt range was better than Kyle overall...that to me is a killer. Yes, Lowry draws fouls, he is great at that, but it is a failed strategy to rely so much on the refs to make a call, that is more of a bonus than an effective game in and game out strategy. You still have to be able to score the ball.... You like Lowry, you think he is better than Brooks....fine.....I completely 100% disagree. Personally, who cares? I am VERY glad they are both Rockets. And if the coaches decide to start Lowry, I will still support both players....I may...like you do now...think they are wrong...but so what? DD PS. I would trade Brooks if it netted us a Superstar like Melo.....but moving him for a backup center and backup PG, is just not a good move.
Humbly, I wonder if people's take on AB goes all the way back to how they felt when we drafted him. I was really happy with that pick and have typically been an AB supporter. I don't remember Yoyo's take on that draft. I understand his critics, and I understand the worry that he won't be as effective with a 7'6" anvil in the paint... but this idea to trade him anytime soon is, to me, nuts. If we're looking bad at the trading deadline, and if he still looks like a "sell high" moment to some team desperate for a scoring, quick PG, then consider the trigger then, I guess. Then you could avoid overpaying to keep him next summer. But you better be really, really sure that Lowry is better than Skip II. Nevermind better than Brooks, which I don't really think he'll ever be.
What are ya'll smoking? Why the hell would New Orleans want Brooks when they have Collison? If the Hornets are trading Paul, the centerpiece of the deal WON'T be a point guard. We have a bunch of arm-chair GMs who think we can just swap Brooks and co. with Paul without ever taking into account what the Hornets would want/need from the deal.
39.8% on 3pt shots is pretty danged good, especially when you consider he also had to create his own shot most of the time. I expect that to improve quite a bit with all that room Yao will create for him....wide open looks for AB from 3...yes please. DD
Who cares if he's only been a starter for a year? How is that relevant? You should be looking at the individual facets of his game and seeing if there is room for improvement. Will Brooks shoot a better fg %? Maybe so, but since he's already shooting a high %, the improvement wouldn't be substantial. Court vision? Doubtful. Height? Impossible. Defense? Maybe, but since he's short and has a small frame, he'll always be at a big disadvantage. Maybe he can try to draw more fouls, but he has a tendency to avoid contact. Honestly, how do you think Brooks can realistically improve upon what he accomplished last year? There have been a number of players who have developed a mid-range/3 pt game (off the top of my head, Tony Parker, Jason Kidd, Channing Frye).
Yes, Brooks can get better, his passing got better, his midrange got better, his 3pt shooting got better. Brooks can get better......IMO. DD
