Nate Duncan is being a bit disingenuous. If we're deep in tax territory in a few years the incremental cost of a few of these salaries we shed to get under this year is massive. Like had we kept Ennis and stayed over the tax this year it could ultimately end up costing like $30 million or something.

Yeah, that part is janky. But I also can see how the landscape shifted and getting under the tax threshhold became possible when it wasn’t foreseen as being possible to do so.

    Or they just lied.

The buyout spending will obviously tell a lot of the rest of the story.

Do we lose the ability to use the MLE savings after this season, or is that something that rolls over?

Ok, if this is the final team, then yeah we're not competing for a title this year. Oh well...

Nate Duncan has an obvious axe to grind.

Everything starts over when the new league starts. We'll get a new MLE like the rest of the league but none of the savings rolls over.

I agree they are likely "aborting" this season right now given how the data & common sense shows what this team is in comparison to the Warriors, but tell that to James Harden who has to be royally pissed off right now. They could have at least stuck with SOME of the players they had for depth (Ennis & Stauskas). Its just kind of a slap in the face to Harden IMO and I don't really know whats the point of even trying to make the playoffs now. Might as well let Harden get his record for games straight with 30+ ppg, then bench him & CP3 the rest of the season to get a lottery pick.

I don’t think we had the assets NOP would want for Mirotic in the 1st place

I’m not gonna kill Tilman for not wanting to pay LT for a team where damn near half of it is filled with unplayable scrubs and the team isn’t a contender. What for? Most owners would be trying to reduce payroll. Wasn’t Leslie always trying to avoid paying the tax as well, or am I remembering that wrong? Most owners damn sure aren’t trying to pay the repeater tax either unless they got a dynasty on their hands and a chance at multiple rings. If Morey had the assets for a high impact player that’s being paid a lot, would Tilman say no because he’s cheap?

They took 2nd round picks and expiring, that's it.

4 2nd round picks, an expiring, and maybe they see “potential” in Stanley

What would we have been sending them to match salary?

Morey did the best he could given his constraints, but yes this team as currently constructed is not beating the Warriors 4 out of 7 games. This was a financial punt by Tilman, if it's indeed true we will not be players in the buyout market.

I don’t see why Tilman should want to pay LT for the squad we’ve had this season. Morey had been trying to trade all these scrubs for solid rotation pieces all season. Nobody wants them. U might as well get rid of them and reduce payroll then. All these dudes were straight up useless. If a guy that could actually contribute like Wes wants to come here, we got a spot for him.

I have no idea why some people think so either. You pay LT for players that are worth it.

But apparently once the likes of knight/chriss/ennis got traded they became worth it. Nevermind all the they suck posts all season long

just for laughs I noticed @LorneMalvo had ennis sucks on both ends of the floor posts this season. Then he gets upset ennis got traded. that was pretty funny

the season isn’t aborted, the team just wasn’t worth paying LT

it’s not like we dumped someone like EG for tax savings...we dumped scrubs

this season has just been odd and backwards. We started the year with a ton of the board being excited over the acquisitions of the likes of melo, mcw, ennis. Those of course were a disaster.

Now the rockets make the moves to correct those and we find the board in outrage.

No... its an egotistical maneuver to say "James will do it all for us anyway", and "we are soooo great, EVERYONE will just assumed sign with us FOR FREE". 3 and D wing guys are a dime a dozen. PJ can guard everyone. We are good. James Harden MVP!!

    Ellington, Melton, a 1st and 2nds.

And the Rockets would have had a backup PF and PG for the first 50 games.
