he said potentially but it sounded like he was pretty confident. Maybe he can't officially say anything until he is signed
That's a shame about Llull. To have time to adjust to the NBA and for the Rockets to have him in his prime. It's probably now or never for him to make the move over.
The Rockets top two needs are another star player and perimeter defense. JSmoove fixes the second issue for the Rockets as an elite level defender.
Awesome. I knew there are had to be more of us there today. Sometimes I wish we had a secret handshake or something......or do we already have one? haha
From what I read, it seams the chances of JSmith coming to Houston took a plummet after that. J.Smith is not not going to sign a short term contract. I think he actually wants a max contract which we're not going to give him. Goodbye JSmoove Hello Twin Towers!
All I know is last year after the draft at one of the luncheon's he was very agitated because the Dwight trade fell through (presumably) and he was nervous about no center and I still believe we had Lowry at the time. He basically said he planned on this being the team and that they were happy with what they had. The truth of it all is that you can never tell what he is going to do, you also can't tell if he already knows if we are or are not getting certain players. Everything he says at these events should be taken with a grain of salt.
So glad you posted this was swamped at work today and couldn't make it. Did he mention possibly moving parsons to the 4 to get an allstar at 3 or vise versa harden moving to 3 to get all star at the 2 spot?
Always knew Morey wasn't looking for an ineffecient guy like J. Smoove, good to hear it from the man himself. Dwight/CP3 or patience, best way.
Am I the only one glad to hear Thomas Robinson is still working out at Toyota Center? Extremely hard worker hate to see someone with that potential let go.
No he didn't talk about this specifically. He did say we are set at the 2. Again, he mentioned teams often get themselves into trouble focusing on signing guys at any particular position. Sounds like he prefers to get the best players possible and worry less about a potentially filling a weak position.
if we were to sign Dwight or CP3, would be interesting to see how quickly Morey moves into a less flexible mode and starts signing other pieces to longer than one year deals, or if he sticks with the same Beverly/Delfino type contracts
Asik and Lin's deals end when Love and a few other big names become FAs. He'd need the perfect role players to compromise that opportunity.
Morey has said he'd double up at a position and Asik's name does keep cropping up in that scenario. Even Feigen has noted it could work using Greg and Asik this season as an example. A quality big man rotation is three players deep anyway. We hear how it's a guards' game today but this playoffs the big men depth have decided series. It's so important to have two second rim protectors who can also score so there's always the choice to have one on the floor.
1. Josh Smith is not an All-Star player. At least not in the traditional sense. He's more of a stat geek all-star, but even in that sense he's regressed this past season. Signing players like Josh Smith doesn't boost your city's cred. Just like signing Hedo or trading for Gay isn't making players want to go to Toronto more. 2. Sure. But no more than another contract or simply capspace. Just because he brings benefits doesn't mean he's worth $50-60mil/4yr type of benefit. It's not like the Rockets can't do anything besides signing Smith with their cap money. They can offer this money to someone else, perhaps a younger player, who's contract will become a bargain for future trade partners. Smith's value is at the highest as it can be. He's going to be an "old" 28. And his game relies on athleticism. Even if he plays out of his mind the next year, no one's going to give him a massive 4yr deal when he's 29 and still an athletic freak more than a great basketball player. Again, Morey doesn't assets that depreciate in value. It goes against everything he has done during his entire time here. And Josh Smith is just that, a player whose value can only go down in the future. I certainly would not mind having him if we already have 2 stars here(either CP3 or Howard) in a S&T. Because I do think he can push a contending team over the top. But as someone who will be taking up most of our capspace? No.
Jedi Translation for Jedi: Back next year, most of the team will be. The youngest team in the league, we were. Their belt just by adding one year under, add 4 to 5 wins, teams like ours will. So where we be trying to get to next year is that 50 win range want to. If potentially put us in the championship contention, we can add one of these significant free agents we feel like that could. The models out there that, similar to that we are trying to accomplish are okc, are we which was similar to us, similar age, to us in everything similar. To the top seed just like us and then they progressed very well from there three years ago they lost 4-2. Really done things the right way is miami, the other team that has. First when they only had wade, equivilant talent to harden at a similar age, who we think is, they planned their cap really well like what, doing right now and they were able to add shaq, are we. Then very careful with their cap again, they were when they added the players they added this time(lebron & bosh obviously). so sort of the plan, that is, to go after some of the bigger free agents this year and if we get not them then carefully manage the cap to get us to the 50 win range with most of the players we have now and keep our flexibility. We feel we took a big leap forward this season but we still feel we need to take another big leap forward whether, through trade or free agency, that is. Herh herh herh.
Thanks for the info Seems like DM is not going to push for something to happen and force it. Les probably is giving him that flexibility which is great. Interesting that DM notes that we are safe to buy jerseys now...
