possibly as high as 8 to the clippers. They don't need him but they are the clippers. there are a ton of pf/c guys projected to go in the 7-15 range and we are obviously at the bottom of that range. ...and you can't teach someone to be athletic, have a 7'7" wingspan and swat nearly half a dozen shots a game.
Well if he is going that high, it means Udoh, Aldrich, Davis, Monroe and Patterson are dropping. They might not swat as many shots, but I think they would be more productive.
Well with this guys there's to many factors to consider like playing time, Coaching staff, veteran players around them, etc.... Plus all the guy's you mentioned were drafted by horrible teams: Javale McGee;Wizards(2nd year) | Patrick O'Bryant; Warriors | Sear Sene; Sonics and then there's Hilton Armstrong, how was he a project big, he was a 4th year senior from Connecticut.... --RB
He was considered raw offensively, even though he was drafted in the 4th year. Supposedly, he was known for his defense.
Whiteside will ride the bench for at least 2 years before contributing any meaningful minutes in the NBA. He's nowhere close physically, and has a lot to learn. Probably spend most of next year in the D-League.
In Armstrongs defense, he is coming up on his 4th year as a pro which is still early in his career. He still has time to improve if he works at it. I don't think he has a strong work ethic.
Not going to read the whole thing, but does anyone else think the title is misleading? It's a generic article with no insight or inside information, and at the end it loosely speculates that the Rockets could be looking at him.
yeah but Whiteside fans will take anything to help push him as a Rockets pick...even poopsworld articles. SMH. I bet If John Lopez wrote an article about why the Rockets should draft Whiteside they'd all agree.
This is what i said and its nothing wrong with that. Like i've said to another poster, its player development. The payoff if done properly could pay huge dividends. Its not like the rockets are in championship mode anyway. It would be nice to see a high ceiling guy develop. The rockets could sign a guy like Fasenko to play now and still develop also.
If you drafted Whiteside and kept Hill, he could very well sit a year. That's a reasonable expectation from a #14 pick. That's what Hill did as an #8. Those videos are against The Little Sisters of the Poor but dayum he looks like he could be something. He looked naturally aggressive and that's half the battle. But so did Stromile Swift.
I don't think stromile swift blocked 5 shots a game. As a poster said, in college, rebs, blocks and steals translate the most often in the NBA. Thabeet has checkmarks in two of those. All slowmile swift was really known for was dunking on Yao.
I just watched Whiteside's interview on Draftexpress.com and compared it to the Daniel Orton interview as an age-relevant control. In comparison to Orton, Whiteside really seems like a child, and for that matter, a child that isn't particularly bright. When you look at drafting a player who is a project, the most important thing to do in my opinion is to evaluate the person. Every "project player" drafted to the NBA that I can think of that hasn't panned out, I think their faults can be traced back to lack of effort/desire or poor character. People have been talking about Stro Swift, but from Whiteside I'm getting a big time Steven Hunter vibe. I think there are a lot of real similarities there. Steven Hunter, in case you don't remember, went #15 overall in 2001. I still remember how much hype there was about him at DePaul.
Would your money be on the guy who measures in at 6' 8.5" with shoes being a shot blocker at the next level or the guy who measures in at 6'10.5" without shoes with a 7'7" wingspan being a shot blocker at the next level?.........just sayin'
Would you bet on the 6'8.5" guy, the 6'10.5" guy with 7'7 wingspan, or the 6'11" guy with 7'8.5" wingspan at getting a contract after their rookie contract is over?
I know Whiteside personally and seen this kid play a lot of games at marshall. He's had a very tough upbringing and has been through many many problems throughout his life (which speaks on his character). In result he has a very small circle of trust, is somewhat shy, and is very candid when he speaks. He's a really down to earth person and I would be ecstatic to see him in a Rockets jersey. But the one thing he isn't is a lazy player...this kid works just as hard as the next top player in this draft. I don't understand why people see him as this lazy arrogant player...he's the total opposite.
