But he couldn't even score a point against Hilton Armstrong 1 on 1.... As someone else said, raw big men = high bust rate. I highly doubt we'll pick Whiteside as Morey said he prefers big men who can walk and chew bubblegum at the same time.
It's one thing to be a a dumb person. It's another to be inexperienced due to being young. Whiteside just looks like he needs to develop, get some pro help and just keep learning. You can't teach size and you can't alter someone's bone/muscular structure to make him mobile at 7 feet (yeah yeah Yao's bone was altered, but i mean as a whole). Whiteside has everything that can't be taught, that alone is intriguing. If the Rockets go after him i'll assume they saw he was teachable, so far they havent been wrong.
Are these "head-scratching" moments a way to---as another poster mentioned, with or without irony, I'm not sure---ensure he goes to the right team? Phoenix's M.O. when they had high picks was simple, and so obvious (and yet no one caught on). Remember when Stoudemire started backing out of workouts when he, I think, "pulled a hamstring" (*cough* B.S.! *cough* B.S.!). This was announced right after his Phoenix workout. There's so much misdirection this time of year, anyway. But if Whiteside can develop over the course of the next 3 years, we'll have our Yao replacement.
Now that Cuban knows who Morey likes, he can move up and get him. Seriously, I'm not expecting this kid to fall to 14th. He's too tall, long, and athletic for a team to pass him up. .
Hopefully that's all he has in common with Eddie Griffin. I'm saddened by the loss of Eddie Griffin but we don't need another head case. Hopefully he'll be Hassan Upside.
Something about Whiteside makes me worry. I also feel that if possible, we could trade down to the 20's and get Solomon Alabi who has nearly the exact same potential, plus get a 2nd pick to take a chance on a Willie Warren or Lance Stephenson.
Morey has spoiled us. We expect every draft pick to be a hit. The truth is that a 14th pick is a gamble, so why not gamble on a seven footer. Except I don't expect him to fall to fourteen.
well right now he's not projected as a top 10 pick. in order for your assessment to be right, that he won't be there when the rockets pick (if they pick at #14), he would have to improve his stock. that's not what the article says he's doing. there are still individual team workouts to go through. this is the most telling of where a player might go. if he secretly has a guarantee from the rockets (and wants to play here) all he has to do is not schedule workouts with the clubs picking ahead of them. with his perceived "red flags" in addition to not seeing him in an individual workout, he would be too great a risk to take with a lotto pick and easily fall to #14.
Though i'm not sold on Whiteside, this could be: 1- Morey smokescreen to get Whiteside picked early and have a guy drop 2- Whiteside is basically a 7-foot canvas, that, if he is willing to work, you can form yourself. It will take years, but it might be worth it!
Looks like the "ban" of some websites has been lifted. BleacherReport appeared recently, Hoopsworld today. As for HW, meh, don't know much about him so I cant really speak. Project it looks like?
which is where my scenario comes in...rockets trade up very high only to trade down to around #8-10, int he process acquiring an extra asset or two. And isn't this title misleading? Unless i missed something the rockets arent looking at Whiteside, at least not right now, it's just speculation that it may be a good fit for him..
<br> To answer your question: they don't. Look at the link. It's a hoopswoorld article.... But really? Hakeem giving his stamp of approval?? That's definitely interesting....
If he was wearing sandals, I'm assuming his standing reach in shoes is really around 9'6- 9'7 which is crazy considering the highest standing reach in the NBA is Yao's with 9'8.... SMH --RB
Some of these young kids need playing time and development. To me, hassan needs both and some. He needs to learn how to be a pro in every sense of the word. Being in the nbdl gives him a chance to play and learn to be a pro. The practice schedule along with alot of 1 on 1 time would be invaluable. This is about long term growth in terms of whiteside. Plus the rockets can sign fasenko or mbenga on the cheap. Its about having whiteside stronger and ready to contribute4 in 2011.
