Yeah and lord know that Courtney Lee for Ariza and his **** contract was a "lateral" move. I don't see the Bulls knocking down the Hornets door for a shot at Ariza.....
This. There has been some overvaluing, in the sense that the value of our younger assets is depreciating based on their lack of real development. But for the most part, the Miami and New York situations have changed the complexion of superstar movements in the NBA, and I don't know if many could have predicted that a year ago. Next to New Jersey, the Rockets had probably the best combination of assets and flexibility to make a deal happen. Unfortunately, the players themselves are driving the bus more than ever before. The Morey blueprint was all about appealing to opposing teams and general managers, while the NBA since July 1, 2010 has allowed players to take nearly full control. That's the problem. It's not about overrating assets, but instead about assets not meaning as much on the trade market as they used to. Like you said, it's a shame for a franchise that can't seem to catch a break on much of anything.
We're not talking about the Rox not acquiring a superstar before the deadline...I'm just talking about what we're hearing so far. Thabeet? Flynn? That's the return for this heralded group of assets??? Really?
The assets aren't that heralded. We can see it when we watch the games, so I'm sure other GM's know as well. You (not you per se) can't be mad at Morey for not being able to flip our players into a stud. We have a bunch of average players and no high picks.
If that's the only outcome today, then yes, I would be very disappointed and depressed. I'm hoping for something completely different. Morey often does the unexpected.
Honestly...collecting a group of "flippable" assets that are high value players with good contracts is the mantra of the Morey Love Parade around these parts.
i'm not saying it isn't entirely unimportant. i'm telling you that right now, if someone calls in with an offer, he doesn't have time to survey it meaningfully. i'm also telling you that a fan forum is NOT a good sample of a team's market.
Really? You do know that once traded to HOU he can only be traded alone and NOT combined in a trade until after the deadline? His $3.2M salary is getting what individually?
i wonder if rick adelman's opinion has anything to do with pulling the trigger on some of these deals
Fair enough, I don't think he's checking his computer before each offer but I guarantee you he listens to fan opinion. Well let me ask you, besides ticket sales are receipts, what is a better sample to get fan info? (genuinely curious, not a negative question)
People who reguarly show up to a fan forum are committed. They're showing up pretty much whatever you do. If you're talking about ticket sales, it's a corporate game.
