No freaking kidding! Geeze people. On the surface this trade LOOKS under-whelming BUT... A) The thing hasn't even gone down nor do we know ANY specifics. Hell, we could get a high 1st-round pick or the rights to Rubio for all we know. B) How many times have people looked down on a trade that Morey has pulled off which ended up to actually be pretty good? Damn... for all the hate Rafer had on these boards, everyone bi***ed and moaned that they traded away their starting PG for some scrub backup. Hell, people complained when they drafted Brooks and Landry to begin with. People, freaking chill out and let's see how things pan out before pissing on any rumor or news that comes out.
I mean that's fine, but you can't tell me with a straight face that he's better than Aaron Brooks. No way should their value be comparable to where the Rockets entertain the idea of a straight swap. Brooks is having a bad year.. but so is Johnny Flynn. He's shooting 37% from the field and 30% from downtown. I at least know what Brooks can do from year's past, especially his playoff performance.
well if it goes down with the Jeffries for Flynn move, with AB being delt elsewhere, then it might not be so bad for the Rox...Just depends on WHO AB would be delt for in turn.
I would be on board for picking up Flynn, but not for Brooks. IF Aaron goes it should be in a deal for a bigger name with bigger game/potential. Yes, Brooks has been trying to come back from the ankle and his contract situation looms. But AB has shown what he can do when healthy and fockassed. How many guys can take over playoff games ?...against the Lakers at that?...and he's showed it over the course of a whole season. That said, Flynn will prove to be a very good PG in this league and if the price is right, bring him on.
look at what flynn is doing this year. he's freaking terrible. there is a reason why Minny is trading him after having just spent a high draft pick on him. please do not say Rubio because he's not coming to Minny and they know it.
I'm hoping this is not just a salary dump (if we trade Brooks + Jeffries, it would get us under luxury tax)....if true....ouch
if beasley comes to houston i will faint.. ... beasley/flynn for brooks, jeffries, and some other fillers?
i don't care about upgrades if they still suck. what that backcourt needs is someone who can play some defense. time to build a team instead of acquiring pieces.
I'd honestly be surprised if this was a salary dump move, because I've been hearing all types of reports of how Les is one of the few owners left willing to spend to make us a winner, regardless of the luxury tax.
Beasley did go to rehab here in Houston. I'd definitely be behind the move if we got him. However, that dude who posted this stuff earlier didn't follow with a link, so this very well may be utter horsepuckey.
This doesnt make sense unless its for Flynn and first rounder or Flynn and Thabeet. In which case that sounds right for Aaron Brooks.
Agreed. He does have some upside (could be a "scoring point" with probably better pure distributor potential than Brooks), that could become a good chip in the future, or make Lowry expendable. I wouldn't even be that against swapping him for Brooks straight up -- Brooks has no future here, so might as well get something with upside for him. Frankly, if he had shown his potential to this point, he wouldn't be available. Kind of funny...we may end up with Flynn (#6 pick) and Hill (#8). The guy drafted between them, just 18 months ago? Steph Curry.
Comparison Athleticism - Flynn Quickness - Brooks Finish - Brooks Shot - Brooks Potential - Flynn Passer - Slightly Flynn Handles - Brooks looks like the Ariza trade all over again.
Hollinger on Flynn's profile: So apparently he's in the wrong system and is coming back from injury this year, which is why his stats aren't great (and is just as bad on defense as Aaron). Seems like a lateral move for a lesser PG at this point, but I would take him with draft picks. Aaron has played badly for either two poor reasons: he is unhappy about not starting/not resigning/avoiding being traded (=Bad attitude with no production), or he really is that bad now. Either way, I won't be upset if we traded him for picks. Flynn will cost less, and will be happier coming of the bench behind Lowry, and we get picks hopefully.
You might be surprised. A peaked 26-year-old enigma vs. a 22-year-old top 10 pick from two years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if the market dictates those players are a lot closer than you would think. Of course, this is DM the GM negotiating with the worst executive in basketball. Advantage: us. Generally speaking though, I agree there needs to be more involved.
