I wouldn't want Rudy taking any shots from Gordon, Anderson or Harden. So if Rudy can take the 4th option and we can trade garbage for Rudy, then ok. Personally I don't think he'll take that option and will be taking shots from them, shooting when he shouldn't be.
You give Gay, Brewer and McDaniels shots from the preseason and I think you are a better team. Outside of that though, meh.
Between Vivek and Vlade and the rest of the sactown circus, its crazy how dysfunctional that organization is.
Brewer and esp. Mcdaniels give you way more on defense and general scrappiness though. At this point Gay is "just a name", while his shot is decent his tendency to avoid contact and play bad defense make him a liability overall to any team he joins, which is why almost all the teams he's been part have been losers. Mcdaniels is still young and has potential to be our eventual Ariza replacement, I'd rather keep him than Gay.
Gay and Collison are both expiring, they can't wait to leave SacTown, and they'll probably ask for a lot of money next summer...i don't really think they have that much value, certainly not enough to trade for a starter with a good contract like Dragic....also, Miami has no chance to compete this season, if they've any interest in Gay they can just wait to sign him for free in free agency, and there's no reason for them to want Collison.
Dragic's contract is not good. 80 million over 4 years, for a player on the wrong side of 30. No thanks.
I If we could get Dragic, that would be amazing. His contract doesn't look so bad with the higher salary cap. He would thrive in our offense and he can actually play defense. We don't have a second star, he may be the closest to one we could get via trade.
Dragic just turned 30 a couple of months ago, it's not like he's 33...and in fact he's younger than Gay and just one year older than Collison. I'm not even a big fan of him, but 80x4 is not bad at all for a starting pg like him with this salary cap, not sure why you're saying it's bad...and btw it's still better than what Gay and Collison are probably going to sign next summer...and they're certainly not better players than Dragic.
[Wojnarowski] Sources: Timberwolves resisting trade overtures for Ricky Rubio "The Kings have maintained a consistent interest in Rubio for months, although it’s unclear whether Sacramento has the makings of a trade package that’ll appeal to the Timberwolves. Sacramento has been determined to find a young point guard to run its team. The Kings were seriously engaged with Oklahoma City on a Rudy Gay deal that would’ve included the Thunder’s second-year point guard, Cameron Payne, but those talks stalled after Payne broke his foot in September, league sources said."
We have Sac by the balls If we want Rubio. Thibs would much rather have Ariza than Gay. He is a Gundy guy after all and JVG HATED Rudy Gay.
Given Gay's hot start, and the fact that KJ has taken a big step forward, we should consider trading both Ariza and Brewer for Gay at this point. Not that Sacramento would go for it, but this should be in play. Plus this opens up a lot of cap space for next summer if he doesn't pick up his option as promissed.
