Sure but how much you think is mindset worth? Ime is the one with the culture setting because if you look at Toronto they were very dysfunctional even with FVV. In fact there were rumors Barnes and FVV didnt see eye to eye.

FVV was a def a good presence for the team I am not denying that but you dont pay 50M just for leadership and intangibles.

I dont mind that he isnt exactly Giannis. His length and shooting will serve him for a long time and if he is open to 45M now he will be even more open to signing for even less when he is 40.

He actually took a paycut. A top 20 player of all time. The vibes must be immaculate. That also leaves a lot of room to consolidate FVV and another contract for a big money guard.

We dont have a lot of room since we are signing Tari and Amen needs to be paid next year.

Green wanting the max and being given a deal such that his salary matches perfectly with Brooks's to salary match Durant, Giannis is not a discount.

It didnt match it because we still took on more salary than we gave out, thats why we could get Capela as a throw in iirc.

Yeah, FVV didn't give up a cent. He easily got more here than he could have anywhere else.

He was likely looking at MLE money at best in free agency. No team with cap space was giving it to him, Brooklyn was the only team with enough actual cap space to match what the Rockets gave him and have no need for him.

The only reason Stone was willing to play ball was that he had no way to pay any other player - FVV's bird rights kept him here and got him paid. He was the only player they could sign over the cap at the position over the MLE and once that went to DFS, there were no other options.

I think as a trade piece FVV at $25m is better for the Rockets than FVV at the MLE of $14.5m ... so I don't mind the overpay.

He was a free agent and did better than the MLE. Granted, he had early Bird rights, but then most players of his caliber have some form of Bird rights and use them.

Still like $38M under the 2nd apron. If we go all in next year we should be pushing right under it. FVV + DFS or Adams can get you in the max ish contract zone.

Sure the injury stuff is a risk ..... but ask yourself, what superstar player could you have gotten for Jalen, Brooks and the 10 pick that wouldn't have wrecked your future cap space on an extension?

Most of the comparable talents just aren't available and those that might be would have cost you max money with an Amen extension looming.

And we haven't even gotten to how well he fits with this group .... hell, if he helps unlock Jabari, it's money well spent from the get go.

I like the deal, much better than the alternative of running it back another season with Jalen shooting you out of as many games as he helps you win.

It's a win for the franchise as long as KD stays healthy.

To be fair, aside from the political question, the response to KD was pretty spot on.

We should be looking at thing in a 3-4 yr window rather than just signing as many guys as possible and then making panic moves later.

I dont really like another max guy I'd rather continue to sign quality guys at below market rates like Okogie, DFS and Adams. We already have 3 potential max guys in Amen Sengun and KD..

I think that cost us though cuz we could have signed other dudes in SnT like say Horford/Brook Lopez over Capela. Even D Anthony Melton would be a nice get. And since these guys left their team in FA we prob could have gotten them for a 2nd rounder or something.

I dont even know if we trade FVV next year cuz if he says he will sign for like full MLE do you turn that down? I think Ime would love him back.

My point was he got more from the Rockets than he could / would have gotten from any other team.

    He took zero discount.

The best he could have done with another team is MLE money.

And the main reason he got so much is due to The Rockets loyalty towards a Rockets Legend...

Durant took an under market value salary to help the team build the best roster around him in the short term. When he makes such a concession, he’s going to get something in return. In this case, that’s the player option in 2027-2028. It’s part of doing business, and similar to how the Rockets gave Fred VanVleet a short contract above 40M on his first contract with the team to only be tied to him for two years, if they wanted.
