KD actually did what fans want players to do. Sacrifice money for the team.

I feel at least 1 championship incoming.

What a time to be a Rockets fan.

Weird that it is a one year extension, with the 2nd year being a player option, maybe he opts out for bigger balloon payment.

Welp... this sounds like a reasonable gamble... Obviously it'll come down to KDs productivity vs father time and injuries - but I'm on board!

2 years is a good length... and lopping off 15m/yr certainly helps the worst case scenario...

Well we got a 3 year window - and will still be in good shape after that...

Let's go get some muthafukin trophies!

Maybe, kind of depends on how much Tari gets and if they are willing to exceed the 1A to keep him.

The 1A is ~$210,330,000 for next year.

The team salary with Durant is $186,023,102 which accounts for 9 players.

That leaves $24,306,898 to sign Tari and fill out the rest of the roster - most of which would be minimum guys.

The only players unaccounted for with that money are Tate, Uncle Jeff, Holiday and Okogie (possibly JD Davison later in the season).

The NBA minimum is projected to be $2,457,013 for 26/27. We know Green is done after this season, giving 4 minimums to Tate, Okogie, Holiday & Davison (or their replacements) comes to $9,828,052. (this still leaves one empty roster spot after extending Tari).

That leaves $14,478,846 to pay Tari and remain below the 1A, IF that's the line in the sand.

There's not much reason for them not to exceed that figure, as long as they stay below the 2A of $223,081,000.

My expectation is that Tari's contract comes in somewhere between $17M-$20m and they are a bit over the 1A ....

If they were to dump FVV's $25m, it opens up a lot of new options. That'll be the contract we talk about moving most next offseason if a trade is to occur.

KD did the team right .... Hell of a deal for Stone.

KD seems like the type that doesnt want to be anywhere that he doesnt feel appreciated - regardless of the paycheck... This gives him that flexibility if things sour....

Tari's extension surely gets announced in the next 24-36 hours.

Fred will come off and I assume that becomes Amen's bag.

    Teams window is there.

Super excited that the Rockets didn’t pay too much for the extension. For the Rockets, KD is the missing piece for the playoffs, but the risk of injury is too great to pay “MAX” money. I am firmly of the opinion that max money should be for All NBA types in their physical prime. How many times have we seen teams put together an “over the hill gang” of aging superstars and seen it work? Never is the answer that comes to my mind. Players that set aside their egos and accept a bit less than max will win championships while the older maxed out players sit at home during the playoffs. Philly, GS, Clippers, Dallas, and the Lakers all fall in this camp this year.

I hate the 2nd year. Needed it to be a team option or partially guaranteed.

45 mill for a 39 year old 3 years out is a huge risk

Here’s a helpful spreadsheet view of what you’re saying.

ofc, Stone is most concerned with Amen’s payday in 2027-28. Thus, I expect Tari to get a rollercoaster deal like Jabari with lowest year being the 2nd yr, rather than the first, ie descending at first, then going up.

A slight reason why he would take the pay cut, stars have egos, and they want to be in control.....

He could be 49 and still feel like he has done something in the league.

Hats off to him that is at least willing to do it.....he is the only guy I watched taking a paycut with the Warriors.

That was never going to happen. The Rockets did not give up what they did for essentially a rental.

Let me get this straight. The Rockets acquired a future Hall of Famer and one of the most efficient scorers of all time this offseason.

This player then agreed to extend at below his full market value so the team could also afford to extend another young player (Tari Eason) on a reasonable contract. Yet, some fans are b****ing that the team should have let this top-20/25 player leave after a one-year rental.

Some of you would b**** if you won the lottery tomorrow because you have to pay taxes on your winnings.

The truth is the Rockets weren’t going to have cap space next summer to add a different superstar whether they extended Durant or not.

I really hope we don’t extend Tari because I am not fully sold on his health and would rather let him test the restricted free agency.

Beyond my wildest dreams contract wise. Just an incredible deal for Houston. This is huge.
