Van Gundy was ticked off they took Head and got Hayes because according to him they were too small and he didn't want them. But Lindsey did want them and so we got them. JVg did later on admit that he was wrong and Lindsey was right saying Hayes was a good player who knew hot to help a team win games and that head was a very good value at 24. So perhaps JVG is realizing he isn't the end all be all of player evaluations, either that or Dawson and Lindsey are making the moves, which according to JVG is the case. JVG has said over and over the player moves are not his call, but Rockets fans refuse to accept it. Maybe the days of Rudy taught them a lesson. I am starting to think after the Charlie Ward signing that JVG's input on personnel moves has dwindled quite a bit.
LOL. So true. while, JVG's pick might have been in favor of drafting a guy like Brewer, i think CD and DL are looking at Redick. Also, I would hope that Jho is traded this summer so that Hayes will have consistent minutes next season. Here's a trick, Take our 3 PF's stats and formulate thier per 48 minute stats (devide stats by minutes per game then multiply by 48 minutes), then tell me who should be our starter.
Yeah I'm glad we got him for next year. He brings good energy, hustle, and rebounding of course. Probably got him cheap too so its a good pickup.
I'm kind of thinking the same thing. Juwan or SS could be moved soon. Also there could be some good PF's at #32 like Taj Grey as well.
I was just responding to the idea that such a small sample can't provide reliable or meaningful stats. I don't think Chuck is bad at all. I love him. He's my favorite kind of player, the sort that plays above his talent and with true grit. He reminds me of Chucky Brown and Elie that way. Great move for the Rockets.
I wouldn't worry about that. After next season, we'll have Hayes' Early Bird rights, which means that we can offer him up to MLE money. And if he's worth more than that, the recent collective bargaining agreement closed that loophole by allowing teams who haven't spent their MLE to match a 2nd year restricted FA up to the max. In layman's terms, if Hayes has a great season, we'll definitely be able to sign him if we want.
I might be wrong here, but I thought that if you signed a player at the minimum for1 year with a team option for the 2nd year, then after the 2nd year he was an unrestricted FA?
Great decision. We had many problems on this team last year, but Chuck Hayes was not one of them. Just about any team could use a guy with that kind of energy and some skills to go along with it off of the bench.
Naw. They were always restricted FA. Remember when Boozer stabbed Cleveland in the back after his second season, there was still some talk about the Cavs clearing cap room to try to match Utah's offer. Same thing with Arenas, Golden State had an opportunity to match, but they didn't have the Full Bird Rights or the cap space. The new twist is that now, you can match any offer even with just the Early Bird or MLE. You can read more about it here: http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#37
I thought that was a new loophole the players put in the CBA, maybe they didn't get it in, but I thought I read they wanted that in there, since the owners were trying to prevent the Arenas and Boozer situations.
In 1927 my dad scored ALL the points in his team's losing effort against a bitter rival junior high. Sadly they lost 17-1.
I bet this was a morey stats deal. you don't even need the stats to see when he is in the game the rockets are + whatever in points. but the key to a player like him, imho, is he is always gonna be a limited minutes player. If the rockets had a true starter/rebounder at pf I think it would make hayes even that more valuable, because the rotation right now almost insures minutes for swift, because no way hayes be the full time backup for juwan.
Take a look at the link. It explains the provision that you're thinking about. BTW mattj. Do I read this correctly. The Rockets just made Chuck Hayes quit the team?
