Great news. How does that work on the mid level exception? Does it take some off of that? Or does it count seperately seeing that we had him last year? Capists?
that's a little harsh. i doubt that you think chuck is that bad. every game in which he played he made a difference, he changed the pace, he gave us not just energy (a la bowen) but real production (rebounds, steals).
Not with that shooting stroke. They probably exercised an option on Chuck, because you can't sign free agents right now. That's just semantics, but it probably means that they've locked him up for the minimum.
i think we had a team option for the second year. this won't involve the MLE at all. the MLE has nothing to do with re-signing your own players.
good! either Stro or JHo will be gone...that's maybe the reason why the Rox are interested in Alexander Johnson
Thanks. This makes the news even better. I guess they applied moneyball to Chuck and liked what they saw.
As I said earlier, I believe when they initially signed him for the rest of the year last season that he wigned with a TEAM OPTION this year at $486,000. So the team simply picked up that deal that was signed last year, therefore it hs no effect on the MLE whatsoever.
Well there's two ways to look at that. That way, or if he turns out very good, it would be hard to re-sign him because his salry is so low.
There's still plenty of roster spots open, I wouldn't assume that. It's not going to be that easy to deal Juwan, if they do, rest assured they will be taking someone else's bad contract in return.
Chuck Hayes is a scrappy player, that I think has some decent potential. It was a nice job to find the guy, and a great job keeping him.
Make room for Sheldon Williams and move Stromile. Nice signing by the Rockets. Chuck Hayes is a great player and provides a spark off the bench.
Good move. Hayes is the typical player I'd like out of a backup 3/4. He hustles and is a smart and heady player.
I like Hayes, good effort guy, but do we need another undersized player anywhere? I guess if I had my choice of 'effort' guys- Hayes or Bowan I'd take Hayes in a second, he can score and rebound. For Bowans one decent play a game and all the rest of the time running around like a wild man I would take a player who can at least contribute some boards.
He gives us a lot more than Bowen, and seemed to have a positive impact whenever he was let off the bench... hell, let off his leash. It's a good move, and if it turns out that we need his spot, later, we can cut him. (unlikely) I'm pleased. I'm also pleased that they re-upped a positive contributor that Jeff apparently didn't want. A message to Van Gundy? Maybe, or maybe JVG is rethinking how we're going to play next season. These playoffs have opened some eyes. Our assistant GM stats guru must have liked Chuck's numbers.
Players signed for next year so far: PG Rafer/Sura SG Head SF T-Mac/Bowen (can't he be bought out already?) PF Juwan/Swift/Hayes C Yao/Mutombo Why oh why can't the Rockets buyout Bowen? And why oh why can't they re-sgin Bogans to be the backup SF instead? If they choose Bowen over Bogans like they chose Bowen over Padgett I think we will be seeing that "Moneyball" will be a disaster. Bogans could be a decent backup SF/SG they need to keep him over Bowen.
