Actually, it's consistent branding with the LEAGUE in general, not just the Texans. Take a look at ANY NFL jersey and tell me where it says the city name on it. To the best of my knowledge (and I stare at football images all day for a living), NO NFL jersey has the city name on it. Heck, some jerseys don't even have the team name on them, either. Therefore, the jersey comparison between the NFL and NBA is completely irrelevant. Now, let us never speak of this again. BTW, put me in the camp of people who think the road jersey should say "Houston" on it...
C'mon... $1.75 for the Chronicle? I don't pay that much to read the stories I want off the 'net. I mean, $1.75????????
Tim, i brought up the generic issue with regards only to the city and not the team name. My thought was that I am sure you caould find plenty of people in Asia that probalby have a less than enlightened attitude toward the USA, much less the name HOUSTON, and so the jersey would come across as more generic in that sense. And I agree that if we don't highlight the Houston name then we automatically focus more on the Rockets name. IMHO, I liked what the Astros did with the Road unis. Seems like there would be ample opportunity to sell unis with the HOUSTON name on them. I like the combination name more, HOUSTON ROCKETS, than the other options. That is two words, though, and not one definable word like ROCKETS or HOUSTON. 30 YEARS is plenty of time to get it right, though
DIME SMACK: Time to suit up Sep. 22, 2003 9:16 a.m. The Houston Rockets and their new uniforms gave us a good laugh yesterday. They've spent a ton of time and money re-designing their unis and logo and have been all fired up to unveil them to the public before the season starts. The designs were leaked, though. The best part? You can buy jerseys online, but the Rockets organization doesn't even have the unis yet. One of the team's officials joked that they should buy some jerseys off the Internet and debut them that way...
Yeah! That red & silver strikes me as a very odd combo. Also, I agree with the earlier poster who said that the new unis reminded him of Ultraman's costume. Overall, I'm underwhelmed I suppose.
You're right they should say HOUSTON ON THE FRONt Because were are not ashamed of the uni's so lets get the town on the suckers .
It doesnt matter if the new Rockets uniforms say houston on them. Everyone knows where the rockets are from anyway. Plus, the last ugly jerseys didnt say houston on them either..
i agree, i don't really feel all that bad that the jerseys don't say houston. all the great teams are known by their team name anyway.
My opinion on the uniform matter: The uniforms are very nice. They are very simple, but unique; traditional, but futuristic (without a bunch of clutter). Concerning the design of uniforms, it seems that the consensus prefers a cleaner, simpler look than something remotely gaudy. I feel that the designer succeeded in coming up with something that most people will be happy with (it's impossible to please everyone, someone will always have a complaint). Everyone's opinion matters greatly, but I feel that beating up on Tim is a bit much, considering that he is very interested in our opinions. Whatever decisions were made with the previous desing had none of his imput. Concerning adding "Houston" to the road jerseys, I'm sure that problem will be resolved, but I'd be interested in how much flak is raised once the Rockets start winning . BTW, I'm not a brown-noser for anyone
I like the numbers as well, actually. I really like how the uniforms have a bit of an Asian touch, without overdoing it. Makes sense.
LOL is there ANY part of this whole Uniform/New Logo process that the Rockets havent messed up on? Logo: LEAKED, Rockets forced to show hand Uniform: LEAKED, CC.NET forced to pull links to NBA site showing uni, EASTBAY has jerseys for sale before Rockets can show them off top to bottom, this summer has to be considered a faliure as far as marketing the Rockets and marketing the new logo and uniforms
As an aside, and I'm sure it's been said before, but in all honesty, I think it's a credit, both to this site and the Rockets/Tim that he takes the time to respond in here on behalf of the organization. I doubt that many other cities/sites can say the same has happened to them. Tim, don't forget to E-Mail me about those tickets....
LOL! Can't believe you still thinking about the tickets! It's been quite a few months already...! p.s. How about my 'Rocket hat', Tim?
That wasn't a benefit. That was a page put together to sell group tickets to a game. We wanted to have a chance for everyone to go to a game together and the Rockets ticket people put together a page where people could print out an order form. The only reason they did it was to sell tickets to the game. We initiated the contact with them and they just provided a way for people here to buy the tickets.
I like the choice of font for the team name and the font style for the numbers are cool, as well as the overall design, which is unique (the stripes running along the borders), but silver is much cooler than dark gray IMO. Major improvement of the navy pajamas which I only wore at games here in LA. and white kicks with the home white jerseys and black kicks with the road red uni's would be a fresh change of pace. HOWEVER, black socks worn to the knees would be hideous and take away from the new look (Walt and Moochie's style of wearing their socks high sucks, like, majorly)Let's hope the color silver is the contrast to the red and white (gray is kinda' tired looking). Zero props to Rockets' marketing Dept. for not revealing the new uni's sooner and not getting them in the malls across the planet much sooner (like the new Cleveland uni's which are highly visible). The timing of the "unveiling" seems illogical considering the need to generate ticket sales for the new stadium and the need to create a more positive buzz on the streets. The new unis should have been revealed at the draft (or at least the logo) and I've heard that the team didn't get league approval on the design in time, but that in itself is not cool. Timing is everything... ...and change is good
