My only problem is that the last name on back of the jersey is not the same font style as the front (Rockets and #). Another example of the Rocks not paying attention to details.
I'm just waiting for someone to start one of those pointless petitions to change the numbering and have HOUSTON on the front.
For what it's worth, I think cc.net is a very valuable site for the fan community. I've had a number of conversations about how we can work more closely together with Clutch and the site. I can't speak to the Fox Sportsnet feature issue; I wasn't here then and don't have the background. But I've mentioned the site when I've been on SportsRadio 610 (posters here noted it at the time), and it comes up in conversation when I talk to the Chronicle. I can't choose the quotes they use; that's their job. It shouldn't shock anyone who has followed this board that cc.net is one of the sources we use to gauge fan feedback; I've been pretty open about that. That's all I really want to say about it in a public forum like this; I'll try to talk to Clutch one-on-one this week to hear more directly from him. Tim
Just want to say that I have tremendous respect for Tim & I thank him a lot for coming to this site answering our questions & for letting us know first-hand on a number of his decisions (Just let you guys know he even spent time answering my personal email in the past !). I would also like to say that I have a lot of faith in Tim's marketing decisions. We are not insiders & there are things we don't know about which might contribute to the final decision on certain things. We should all show our support to Tim & to our beloved Rockets! Go Tim! Go Rockets!
Non-Rockets fan's view of the jerseys: I really like the home jerseys. Finally, you guys shouldn't be embarrassed. The home one's look nice. Not as sold on the away. Like most of you, I think that it should either be all red & white or all red & silver. This mixing and matching makes it look a little unprofessional. You guys will like the shiny material. Tim mentioned only the Warriors use it, but maybe he means that EXACT material. The Nugs new jerseys use it and look REALLY sharp in person. As for the "Houston" not being on the aways, I feel your pain. That was one of my biggest fears with the Nugs new jerseys. It's one of my pet peeves, and I think that only if you've been around FOREVER should you get away with the team name (Lakers, Celtics, etc.). I feel for you guys there. I still think the logo is pretty bad, and the number font is rediculous, but honestly, if I was a casual basketball fan, I'd probably get the Yao home jersey. Good thing I hate you guys.
Admit it, you really want to be a Rockets fan . I think one Grizzlies fan already got converted. You're up next!
My cousins and I were talking about the 3 font for Francis jerseys and could of SWORN we have seen it before, and it came to us it was the Mortal Kombat 3 logo. Now I havent read all 8 pages or so in this thread so forgive me if it has been mentioned.
Yeah, but in his defense, his team moved on him! Mine's locked into a pimped out stadium. I'm happy with the Nugs.
Hey Les, the design is fine, but why not go and show where your heart really is. Go ahead and get it out of your system and just put "Boca Raton" on the road jerseys...and while you're at it, "Carpetbaggers" on the home unis would spell your attitude to a T.
There are a few reasons why CC.net gets no props: 1. The Chron considers cc.net direct competition for their online readers. Why would they plug a site they believe will take readers from them and transplant them to cc.net potentially costing them ad dollars? 2. The Rockets and NBA consider cc.net direct competition for Rockets.com. Clearly, the league wants everyone who wants to read about the NBA to choose Rockets.com FIRST. 3. Despite how lame it may seem, there are legitimate trademark infringement issues at work with the logo, etc. It is EXTRORDINARILY LAME considering how much free press and support a site like this gives to the team and the NBA, but the league seems to care more about its legal protection than it does fan support. What I find HILARIOUS about the photo used by the Chron is that the image of the jerseys belongs to the NBA, the ACTUAL PHOTO belongs to Eastybay, the Photoshopped version belongs to Clutch and the new image is probably a reproduction by the Chron. That's like a fourth generation swipe of an image. --- What I think is really frustrating about the lack of the name Houston is that there is no logo. In the last uniform change, which also went from "Houston" to "Rockets," it could be explained away by saying, "Well, we are using our entire logo on the front of the jersey and it says Rockets." In this instance, there is no logo, JUST the word Rockets. Obviously, the interest is in branding the team and, from a business standpoint, I get that. However, as a fan and a citizen of the city, no question it is disheartening.
This is probably without a doubt the best fan site on the web hands down. Especially with the fact that a team official such as Tim posts here regularly is astounding. With that said, I have to agree that it is ludicrous that the sorry excuse for a newspaper we have in town doesn't give credit where credit is due. (Source: Clutchcity.net on the front page is a start, but they have a long way to go for making amends on that travesty). As for the issue of not having Houston on the uniforms, there is no excuse. You can name every team in the NBA that doesn't have their city's name on the uniform, and I say good for them, but as a Houstonian, and a proud Rockets' fan, I'm disappointed. Furthermore, the mentioning of other teams not having the name on the uniform is like a small child getting in trouble and pointing the finger at someone else who is doing the same thing...its proposterous, you need to worry about yourself, not other organizations. I could care less what the Lakers, Celtics, and Bulls have on their uniforms. Did you happen to notice that they haven't changed their uniforms (Bulls have a black uniform with "Chicago" on it, and the Lakers changed their uniform style). I understand the business decision to leave Houston off of the uniforms, but you also alienate and lack for a better word, piss off your fan base in the city you play in when you do such a thing. A uniform that says Rockets on it and looks good will not bring as much interest as a winning team, winning is what sells tickets and puts AIS. It seems like the Rockets care way too much in marketing the team other places rather than in Houston. Well you shouldn't look past your own backyard, seeing as how everyone in this city (well almost, except for damn Cowgirl fans) loves the Texans, and the Astros are making a post-season run (at least they put Houston on their jerseys). Unfortunately it seems the only way 'Houston' will ever be on a Rockets' uniform is if we trade for Allan Houston. Remember who voted for the arena, remember who shows up to games to root, whoop, holler and cheer for the team.
damn those jerseys are so neat.....u more i see them the more I like them, and most people who' s not so into basketball who have seen the old jerseys and the new ones, thinks the new ones are nicer
It's seems like The Chron takes stuff from cc.net but hey, we take stuff from them also. But look on the bright side, Chron and cc.net work together so that we can be heard.
To be honest, I don't really see the two sites as direct competition. They're pretty complementary, and the way people interact with each of them is pretty different. I know the hits/unique visitors numbers for rockets.com, and while I don't know the numbers for cc.net, it'd be a safe bet to say that rockets.com generates much more traffic in terms of unique visitors, but that the quality of interaction on cc.net is much higher. Outside of some polls and surveys, rockets.com interaction is primarily one-directional. Interaction goes both ways here, and the users shape the site. Most people I know who visit here also check on rockets.com from time to time -- for them to be direct competitors, I'd have to say that I thought usage of one would replace usage of the other, which I don't think is generally true. Fans SHOULD have forums where they can talk about the team that the team doesn't control. Things can be talked about there that really can't be talked about on a team controlled site. Just my opinion -- but I've always thought it was a very interesting topic, so I thought I'd chime in. Tim
The uni's are awesome. Great job. Thanks to Clutch and Crew for all your hard work and giving us knuckelheads the best site on the web. Thanks to Tim for being a stand-up guy. The Chronicle should be ashamed of itself. I send a letter almost weekly demanding that they include at least one Rocket story per day. I don't care if it's a Blindbury fluff peice. Now let's forget all these distractions and get down to some serious winning. Go Rockets.
I find this criticism a little harsh. After all, the unis look great and Tim posts here. There are some other things I cannot comment on because I don't know, but to ask for people to be fired because the first presentation of some uniforms might not have happened in the optimal way seems a bit drastic and uncalled for to me.
