Do some of you also b****ed that they also took Stevie name and move his stuff out of his change area and give it to someone else also? Get over it, Stevie is gone and this is our team.

That's interesting. And if Sura's had the #3 his whole career, then he has as much right to that number as anybody else. Heck, he's been #3 in this league longer than Steve has.

I didn't realize that Sura was here to imitate Steve Francis or that Ward was here to be the "junkyard dog".

I agree with Tinman on this one. Elle was'nt a Superstar, but he ws a critical Cog in the Rockets engine that won those Back 2 Back championships.he certianly meant more to this organisation then what Ward will evr will. remember that shot against Pheonix?. sure ellie never got his Number Retierd, but show some respect. Ward getting his #

ahhh, i like these threads more than the player bashing threads. i just wish sura picked a more popular number like... 56 or 49 instead of numbers people dont usually use like...3:D

I dont dislike Sura, I'm glad we got him instead of Fisher. But how hard is it for Les to say how about another number?
Steve deserved something for being the 'Franchise'.

Come on man, we gave Mario's number to Charlie Ward!!!
Why not give John Starks some of Calvin Murphy's suits???

I guess they're not planning on retiring Elie's jersey, so it has been a few years, so there's no problem. They're not gonna retire Steve's, but I think his number deserved a sabbatical or something.

I loved Mario Elie--he was my favorite Rocket of the glory years. I mean, obviously, Hakeem was the star, but there's always the beloved role player whom you get attached to.

However, any non-retired, non-taken number is fair game. Otherwise, they'll have to start taking numbers like square root of two or 11/4. Or, as Turd Ferguson once said, threeve.

Tinman, I think you just post these outrageous threads to get attention and be a clown -

but in case you are serious, let me tell you right now.... dude - get over it.... maybe if Francis retired as a rocket, you hold the number for a while -

But NEWSFLASH Mr. "fan with SOUL" Francis is now an Orlando Magic player and is wearing number #3 with that team ...

Mr. Cares About the Personalities and the Players... that Orlando Magic number 3 jersery is going to be doing EVERYTHING in his power to BEAT the Rockets come January -

how can you expect a team to be loyal to a player that is still in the league and will be looking to put it on the Rockets everytime they play

I am a Rockets fan - who cares about the jersey numbers of players who only played here a couple of years and only went to the playoffs once

    Controversy? HA.
    Sabbatical? Come on…..

Elie was a great Rocket, and his Kiss of Death shot was one of my favorite Rocket moments of all-time (especially since as a groomsman I held up a wedding reception by 20 minutes by threatening the groom with death if I didn’t see the end of the game.) But he also became a miserable malcontent after he almost got traded…and wrote his own ticket outta here. However, one can argue that Kenny Smith’s shot to force OT in Game One of the 1995 Finals was a more important shot, yet I didn’t hear you guys crying like b****es when we gave Two Sandwiches his number. Malone, Drexler, Hakeem, Rudy, and Murphy are ROCKETS LEGENDS. Not role players. That’s why their numbers are retired.

And Tinman, I’m betting that Manny knows more about SOUL than you, especially with his CD collection. But calling out those who could care less about #17 going to Charlie Ward or #3 going to Bob Sura is pretty weak. Just cause you are obsessing doesn’t mean other “true Rockets fans” (what a stupid concept, btw) need as much Anafranil as you. I’ve been following the Rox since 1979, hated Larry Bird a million times more than I could ever hate Karla (oh…and I hate that guy, don’t you worry).

Go back to the wizard and get your new heart checked out. I think its too sensitive. And while you're there, see if you can get get another one of those brains that the scarecrow received...and mail it to your boy Stevie. He'll need more hoops IQ if he's ever going to get his jersey retired.

    Mateo,

I'm the James Brown of Rockets fans. Manny is the Michael Bolton of Clutchfans. Not saying anything is wrong with Michael Bolton, but we have different styles.

Look Steve might not end up top 50 like Pippen, but who do we like more? Mario Elie was not happy about leaving the Rockets. Neither was Cassell, Horry, Kenny Thomas, Cuttino and Steve. At least these guys TRULY enjoyed playing for the Rockets. I think the ex-Knicks are only here because of Van Gundy and that they want to win one in HOUSTON so they can vindicate themselves from the ghosts of 94.

I mean what is Ewing teaching Yao?? How to run across the lane and travel. To get dunked on by Michael Jordan? How to tip dancers?

I'm skeptical of these ex-Knicks on the Rockets and giving them legendary Rockets numbers is almost as bad as making Magic Johnson wear Celtic green.

Why would I got back to the Wizard? I don't even know where Walt Williams lives.

Are you trying to become the the hardest working poster on this BBS ?

I, too, dislike the Knick stink on this team - but I have always liked Ward as a character guy (contrasted to Starks - who I hate even now). I would prefer the Rockets not need to get him, but his signing I actually understand - he wants some experience to help teach the system to the younger players (similar to Parcells bring in Vinny in Dallas to work with Hensen)

I think the reason that these players all liked the Rockets is because they are a well run organization and Houston is a good basketball city. That being said, you have not reponded to my statement that Francis will have no loyality to Houston next Jan - so Houston need not hold his number back right now.

I will be rooting for Houston's player who wears #3 every day of the week over the player wearing #3 on the opposing team... how about you ?

Well said, mateo! Unretired #'s should be fair game! And 4 tinhead 2 call people here not true roxs fans cuz of some numbers that are fair game is just plain stupid! I've been a ROXS fan since 1981! We need 2 live in the here & now! ;)
