Team friendly and player friendly. Giving Jalen another two years to prove he's worth more than that. Basically: we like you but don't fully trust you. Also very tradable if he performs well.
Well, it's bad news if he doesn't do a lot better because he's completely untradeable now. Here's to hoping he totems his career around.
Stone showing he is one of the top tier GMs in the league. Great deal and tbh I didnt think this would even be possible.
I’d assume sengun’s extension is coming soon. Now that the rockets have committed cap space to Jalen, there’s no point in holding out on sengun any longer.
KPJs AAV was 20Ms per season -- this is considerably more and the creativity is from Jalens camp in that 3rd year player option. He's banking on himself AND hedging at the same time.
Glad this is out of the way honestly, because I hate these contract years when players put in max effort and then suddenly stink up the place the year after. That was a worry with Jalen, not Sengun. Though I think the latter might feel a certain type of way about this.
The Green extension is unprecedented for multiple reasons: 1. Player option in year 3 Teams have gotten away from putting player options in rookie extensions. The last time a rookie extension had a PO and salary of $30M+ was Luka Doncic and Trae Young. 2. The ability to extend his contract starting in Oct. 2026. Green would be eligible to sign a 4/$227M+ extension 2 years from now.
I like it - just saying these are the risks....overall I think it is a fair/good deal for both parties. Rox get 2 more years to assess building with him, and if they choose to go another direction, he is much easier to trade. Win/win DD
