This topic has been beaten to death but that's what we need, maybe not this year, maybe next. Heck maybe we can pry FA to be Marc Gasol away from the Grizz who have blown a ton of $$ on Conley and Gay. If Yao is done Gasol would be ideal.

I like this trade but I'm still on the Bud bandwagon. I hope Chase can keep his spot in the rotation cause it's looking like he's back and is bringing the spark we need again.

I don't know if this has been posted, but T-Williams looks to model his defense after Shane Battier.. who would have thought?!...

hahaha i feel sorry for these nets fans and if what he is claiming is correct, looks like our morey just pulled another quick one on an unsuspecting/stupid gm  i watched twill a little last year and i really like what he brings to the table, and who knows, this could be part of an even BIGGER trade that morey is planning ;)

Let's assume for a moment that the Rockets end up with the #15 pick in the 2012 Draft (the highest possible pick that Houston would have to convey to New Jersey).

Who/what would you take at that spot?

Would that player be clearly superior to Williams? I doubt it.

Meanwhile, that pick could very well be in the 20s.

    This trade was a no-brainer.

Great move for us. JT wasn't getting it done. T Will has talent. Just a matter of finding the right situation to develop that talent. I think this is the place to do that. He can play 3 pos. Averaged a triple dbl in d league (that is not easy to do I dont care who you playing against). That is the type of player we need. I don't expect a whole lot from him right away, but in a month or so I hope he can crack the rotation. We can have a big, athletic guard in the rotation now. I think being around hard working guys can be a good influence on him.

Obviously my preferred course but with the rumors swirling about Mayo and Thabeet, almost sure they will get dealt to open up the money to re-sign Gasol. I have a feeling Morey might turn his attention to Thabeet now and try to acquire him on the cheap.

You know, I wouldn't be shocked by that. If we can't get that superstar, why not take some gambles on lottery picks whose teams are giving up on them early? Jordan Hill last year. Now, Terrence Williams. Memphis is denying the reports, but if Thabeet can be had for below whatever value Morey places on him as a player, then go for it. You wouldn't be able to criticize Morey for not getting a shot-blocker if he made that trade. ;)

I wish this would happen. JR Smith is a BEAST and much better than T-Williams and C-Bud !!!

I agree. I think part of the reasoning behind this trade is to provide more flexibility for Morey to add Bud, Battier, or both in other trades before the deadline. Both of their contracts make them very valuable trade assets.

For those complaining about the Rockets trading away a first round pick, the Rockets current have the following upcoming draft picks:

    2011:
The higher of their own and the Knicks' first round pick (probably will end up in the #12-#18 range)
The higher of their own and the Clippers' second round pick (currently slotted at #31 overall)

    2012:
The Knicks' first round pick (top-5 protected)

Three (3) high-quality picks in the next two drafts. Combine that with the young players they have from the last two drafts:

Jordan Hill (#8 overall in 2009)
Terrence Williams (#11 overall in 2009)
Chase Budinger (#44 overall in 2009)
Patrick Patterson (#14 overall in 2010)
    Ishmael Smith (undrafted in 2010)

The Rockets don't NEED a ton of future first round picks in 2011 or 2012.

i just can not believe King pulled the trigger on this one. TWill plays 3 positions, proved what he can do last year, is young and talented, and got the wake up call this year. This trade depresses me b/c after being a die hard fan since ‘87 I want to walk away from this mess but know I am incapable of it. Why would King do this? why? TWill, Lopez, Harris, Favors was a nice core to build around with the already stockpiling of picks. He has no sense at all what he is doing. Proved it in Philly and is showing us right now that he is a fool. a big FOOL. how can you just give away TWill for nothing. A scrubby back up, likley the last pick in this yrs draft, and in all probabilty a pick in the early 20’s in ‘12. that is not enough. not by a long shot. If you know anything at all about bball you know that TWill was primed for stardom once he got his head screwed on right. Houston came back to rip off King again on a 3 way. I am baffled by this and want to throw up. How do you give up on this kid? How and Why? So you can get 2 more 1st rd picks to throw to Denver for ’Melo. King is an idiot and is gonna give away everything. At a minimum it is gonna be Favors, 4 #1s, and Murphy. So.. in essense the 2nd best player in this years draft, a lottery pick next next year, the golden st pick, and the houston or laker pick, an 8 mm expiring contract to a team that is up the creek with the realization that their star player is not gonna sign and if not for King they’d get way below mkt value. BUT here is the savior. The idiot who never should of gotten the job in the first place. A poor track record in Philly. You think Thorn thought about his when he hired him? You bet! Bring in this stiff and let him butcher the team I am leaving. Avery’s ego played a role here and while he is a great coach he is not a GM. This move will haunt the Nets for the next 10 years as we see TWill put up 15,6,5. Kudos to Houston. Unfortunately, we just gave away an integral part of our future for virtually crap. Only a moron like Billy King could make a trade like this. Please make it stop.

Actually, I think the more likely case than the ones you mentioned be that the Rockets pick in the lottery, in which case the pick would be further DEFERRED to the next year... until potentially 2017. And picks like any other asset is devalued year after year. I mean, the Rockets have to go into a length of sucktitude to the point of the Isiah Knicks to end up looking like idiots.

On paper it looks nice. We aren't a good team and we're giving them a 1st round pick. But in practice, the pick has very low chance of screwing us.

Well it looks like NJ is the big loser in the trade.

They ended up with Sasha Vajibitch. Any team that ends up with him on their team is automatically the biggest loser.
