They can't afford to pay the luxury tax. Plus Hollinger is new GM and wants "his" guys. I don't expect Memphis wants close to even in salary back. Which makes this trade better as Houston can keep more young players for another deal
The more i think about it, the trade wouldn't be too bad. Giving up 3 expiring's and Patterson (expires next season) who's play'd terrible for a guy that will hang around 15-17 and 8-10 for the next 3 years. Like others said too, his contract would expire with Asik's and Lin's. So, a actual possibility, even if tweet is BS.
Because he's 31 on a team with a core of 25-27, a team that isn't a contender, and is owed over 50 mill for the next 3 years.
Keep in mind NYK gave us the equivelant of Douglas' salary for the year in cash when they traded him to us. #Asset
I like Randolph. But at 32, I don't see him as the long term solution. Unless we can get for cheap, I don't see Morey getting him. In fact, I'm tempted to say Morey is going to wait for another Harden situation (like the Celtics did) to come up and snag another star that way. It will suck waiting for another 3 years, yes, but it will be so worth it.
It would clear out both Pat and Morris. So either TJ or DMo would be getting run as your back-up, and potential long term solution
This is a band-aid move. Randolph is 32yrs old this year. He has a very small and narrow window left to compete. The Idea of trading our young assets, outside of Morris and Patterson, to get this guy, just so we can have a 2-3yr window (at best) to compete, is idiotic to me. If competing now is of such high importance to the front office, I would much rather it be Paul Millsap our main target in the off-season or at the trade deadline...
Morey deals hardly ever leak beforehand. Usually, there's no inclination that something is on the verge or possibly happening. It just happens.
