Flopping and tanking aren't related. However, some posters here go nuts when other teams flop, but don't make a peep when Scola or Lowry do it.
I still got my hopes up on Nene, I think he is more of a fixture while Varejao is a nice player to have on your rotation without him having to be your best big man. Varejao would be almost ideal to play alongside Yao (the only thing preventing him from being perfect is a midrange game) but that's not what we should plan for and that's why I'd prefer a guy like Nene, very good at both sides of the floor.
Something I found interesting in b-ball reference: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/v/varejan01.html Varejo's winshares dropped comically from LBJ's time, from 8.1 to 2.o. His DWS this season seems much lower than offensive winshares. I'm pretty sure an average player has 1 DWS and 1 OWS. Does anyone here actually watch Cleveland games abd comment on how effective he is defensively? His defensive reputation might be all due to LBJ and hype.
Win Shares accumulates over an entire season. Its dropped from .18 to .12, per minute, and that's mostly because of the dropoff in team defense.
One thing I'm surprised by though is that Varejao's only making 6.3M this year. I thought he was making Scola money (9M). Hmm, the more I think about it the more I like Varejao over Nene (11M). Get the guy 75% as good (and healthier) for 54% less.
Has this trade rumor been mentioned by anyone besides this guy? Bleacher Report:NBA Trade Rumors: Houston Rockets Could Use Steve Nash By Ryan Rudnansky on December 20, 2010 Despite Yao Ming apparently only being an apparition, the Rockets still have a lot of talent on the floor. Sitting one-and-a-half games behind the eight-seeded Trailblazers, the Rockets still have high-scorer Kevin Martin, and the always-dependable Luis Scola and Shane Battier. Kyle Lowry has been better-than-advertised, but he's still not the true floor general the Rockets would need in Ming's absence. Enter Steve Nash, a pro who would be good alongside Kevin Martin and the rest of the sturdy starting lineup. The Rockets would skyrocket up the standings with Nash at the helm. C'mon Nash, you know you wanna get outta Phoenix. There's nothing there but tumbleweeds now.
It says he makes $7M on hoopshype. Anyways what should surprise you even more is that Scola makes $7.8M this year. I know it surprised me the last time I checked when I forgot. A STEAL.
Yes, Luis is a steal. I can't believe some folks here want to move him because he's "old." Hell, he's still improving and is incredibly durable. For this team, that's almost priceless.
Not that I'm complaining, but he's only in the first year of a contract designed to minimize his starting salary. He'll be making a fully guaranteed $10.2M+ in 2013-14 at age 33. I'm just hoping he's at least worth a good chunk of that money by then. Once you get past the "pain" of that year, his contract becomes a nice trade asset, with (likely) only a fraction of his $11M+ salary guaranteed for 2014-15.
Grrrr... what did you say? Speak up!! (damn, where's the dial on this damn hearing aid) Where's my cane? Which one of you took it!
Last year there were 63 players making $10m. His contract is still way behind that curve, and we're talking 3 yrs out. If our highest paid player is making $10m in 2014, I think we're doing ok.
33 is lots younger for a 4/5 than for a 1/2. Just saying. Of course Broussard is just saying Iggy or Andy will be handed to the Knixies at their request. Here is a trade that cannot be completed as per CBA, so I am asking this on the most ephemeral of levels: would Cavs and/or Rox do: Lowry (for TE from LBJ) and simultaneously Jeffries - Andy ?
Here's my question: Would you give up a package including (A) a first round pick, plus (B) Long Tall Dude in exchange for Varejao? I would.
