Not sold on Andy... I can't stand his flopping ass. I'm not saying he doesn't have game... Isn't his contract like really terrible...
I belive it because of Varajeo's hustle, defense and ability to finish on the break but I think he's very overpaid and for a while. I doubt Morey really wants that contract.
I don't understand why we wouldn't want him... the guy can play competent C. Just like Dampier, we can't have enough of those. He plays hard, draws fouls and has size... besides his haircut, what's not to like? While I like our team, our center position is currently manned by a 36 year old, and a 30 year old that has more screws in his foot than actual bones. And he's pounding said foot with 320 lbs. every day. As long as we don't give up too much, why not?
Portland... San Antonio... Morey.... I've heard that Presti in OKC likes him as well. I will take those guys opinions over 99% of internet board posters. If they all want him then there is something to it.
7-9mil for the next four seasons with a team option for the 5th year @ 9.8mil and I think he is 28yrs old. Seems like a solid contract to me.
Too much is being read into this tweet it just said the Rockets are one of the teams that like Varejao there is definite conclusion that they are interested in making a move for him. I am sure that in the inner workings and circles of GMs its no secret that the Rockets do want a legitimate big man defender and Varejeo fits that mold perfectly. Acquiring him is a different story if all it would take is the expiring contract of Jared Jeffries I am sure the team would do it, but chances are the asking price for Varejao is going to be higher than that. We all hate him for flopping but if he ever became a Rocket we'll defend the heck out of him. Honestly the guy would be a great addition to this team especially with the number of athletic scoring big men in the west. I don't believe the Rockets have the players to give up for Varejao actually, its one thing to give up talent for an all-star caliber player its another to do it for a guy like Varejao. If his contract was a bit shorter or cheaper I am sure an offer of Jeffries' expiring and a future 1st would have been made.
I don't see what role he'd have w/ Scola starting. The thing I like about Varejao is that he has the uncanny ability to annoy the hell out of people (just look at the posts in this thread). That's an intangible that we don't have yet.
Agreed, Varajeo's contract is pretty bad. But I wonder if Les and Morey would be willing to ante up if Cleveland goes into "fire sale" mode and is willing to give up Varajeo in exchange for only Jared Jeffries's expring contract and a 2012 first rounder (the lower of the Rockets' and the Knicks' picks)? That's a LOT of salary to take on beyond next season and would definitely eliminate any chance of the Rockets having cap room in 2011, but it would certainly make the Rockets a better--and even DEEPER--team. Just saying, is all.
I don't think we need him but he would help the team and would be a great player to have on the team with Scola. We wouldn't have to worry about our center dept with Yao, Miller, and Varejao. Plus he could back up Scola. A line-up of: Lowry Lee Bud Scola and Varejao ^That would be a scary fun fastbreak team to watch.
If you notice, the 3 teams that are interested have GM's who are statistics related. Must mean something?
They were interested in Kyle.... Lowry for Verajao swap? I know no one here would go for that, though. But we do have Ish now...
