I think Myles Turner is going to be too expensive and he is not a great rebounder. To get Turner we would have to trade Gordon, another player and a 1st. I would trade for Mo Bamba because to he is younger and cheaper. His current contract is 2 years and only 10 millions annually. He is a legit shot blocker, rebounder and 3 point shooter. He would be a great backup center and Power Forward, I’m tried of Butterfinger Garuba.
Too expensive for what? We have $70m to spend and a limited free agency pool. We need to have high-end players locked in before Green, Sengun, Smith, etc. come up for their next contracts. Then we can go over the cap to sign them. I don’t hate Mo Bamba, but he can’t start for a team that’s just as bad as we are. We need to use our assets to get bona fide starters if we are going to make a trade that eats into our cap room. Bargain bin diving is for teams that don’t have cap room.
Agreed we need three things before next season. A trade for a disgruntled star, a big FA signing and a top draft pick. Right now the disgruntled pickings appear to be Turner or perhaps Lavine. For FA it’s a really bare cupboard; best option is FVV. Turner and Lavine aren’t the best options but as mentioned we have to strike before we have to start handing out extensions to Green, Sengun, etc. Whoever we trade for and sign will always be the the second or third banana anyway. Everything depends on the development of Green, Smith, and our next pick. One has to develop into a top 5 guy or we pin our hopes on an unlikely 2004 Pistons type run. Adding solid vet not quite star guys like FVV and Turner to Green, Smith, and the next pick will solidify the roster.
Turner and FVV are better than the guys we currently have. They aren’t second bananas. What you hope to do by signing those guys is to make the players we’ve got better. And also push them to becoming the top guys. Right now, they’ve been handed undeserved starring roles. And they have not proved themselves worthy.
I believe we have a starting center, I trust Sengun. Pacers are going to trade Turner before the summer free agency, because Pacers do not want to be left empty handed after Turner leaves. Pacers are going to want 2 or 3 first round picks at least….nope. Mo Bamba is more athletic to play the 4 or 5 position, very good shot blocker and a good 3 point shooter.
I was thinking from my own point of view - I wouldn't make any trades for guys like that this season, it'd just interfere with the tank and at this point, we may as well finish the job. No meaningless W's .... So, if I were making that acquisition, it would be in free agency, assuming we didn't land the top pick.
Pass on trading for Turner. Yes on signing Turner in free agency. We will never be able to build a competent defense with Sengun running center. If he sticks on the team, he will be the offense off the bench.
We are still 3 years away from knowing if we even have a chance to make the playoffs. I think we let them play it out without the veteran support until we know what we have. There is the risk some of the kids will jump ship if we keep losing, but they will be partly responsible for it anyway. I just want them to grow. A veteran player likely takes away from the development at this point in exchange for some mediocrity.
i like Turner... all about if he'd sign an extension... Im good w Turner/Jabari/Sengun as my 3 man front court rotation going forward... with our odds on Wemby being what they are - id lock up Turner now if i can - ego, non lottery first... and hope i can get Scoot... then see who falls outta the sky in free agency...
3 years! I'm thinking Turner, Scoot and whoever wants to take our money in free agency - and we better make the playoffs next year! lol
Are we really going to give up on Sengun now? Turner is not a all star player, he just big and a shot blocker.
per 36 min he barely averages 10 rebounds. Sengun averages 12. Sure he can block shots but he’s not a good defender. I don’t see how he’s what we need.
hes an excellent defender, shooter, shotblocker who is having the best year of his career. At 26 he’s heading into his best years. Lock him up!!!!
After playing with Sabonis for so long, Turner said he would like to expand his game and would like his team to utilize more of his skills. In Houston, you would pair him with another center who can pass, creating an Indiana 2.0 problem for Turner and stunting the development of Sengun. Seeing how much KPJ and Green have the ball in their hands, Turner would be relegated to his Indiana role pre-Sabonis trade and be miserable again. I don't think anyone would want to have that on their team.
I'm intrigued by the possibility of Sengun as a play-making high-post 4, with Bamba as a low-post 5 who can shoot the corner 3 on offense and offer some backstop on defense. I'd play Jabari at the 3 with JG and Scoot (or some other quality PG willing to play defense) in the backcourt.
