Does he fit with Pap/Terry/Daniels/Garcia as our backup wings, especially at $( MM next year?

If he plans on opting out of the player option, this is a great pickup.

Has his injuries hurt his jumping ability?

I can't believe the Rockets are interested in Cbud for Cbud.

Chase must be the contract that's getting stapled onto Rubio's bill, and the Rockets are mulling that over.

Maybe Chase could be flipped to a third team that needs him. Hmn. Hmmmmn.

Budinger was never consistent enough for me to really ever become a fan. If this is true, my main question is: "Why?"

Maybe the Rockets are hoping to get an asset in exchange for taking on the contract of Chase Budinger. I am thinking another first round pick would be pretty nice in enticing a team to get rid of its star via trade.

I think he is an upgrade from Garcia, fairly similar players

I would if we traded Garcia. He's supposed to be helping us with his great wing defense, but I don't see it. CBud would be an improvement on offense over him.

Can the Rockets have an under the table deal with Bud...asking him to decline the Player Option and then resign him on a longer deal worth more money?

Bud is an OK player but I don't think he will make more than the vet minimum after this contract.

Budinger is the classic "Look Better Than He Plays" guy-- got a bunch of tools, but not the right package to be really super effective.

The guy can really jump and run, but does not have the handles to use the athleticism to attack the basket off the dribble consistently or the lateral movement and instincts to be a plus defender. He has a great looking jump shot-- Bill and Bull were always raving about how he would jump and land at exactly the same point even after running full speed off a pick-- but only average long-range shooting results. He was so highly ranked as a recruit coming out of high school, but was merely good in college and ended up a 2nd round pick.

No way this isn't connected to Rubio, at least on our end. With Papanikolaou and Ariza signed to favorable contracts, we aren't going to commit $10 million to Bud over the next two years.

Here's what our offer could look like:

    DMo, Johnson, 2nds for Rubio
    Budinger into the Lin TPE

He also benefited and thrived under Adelman but I doubt he'd have the same success under McHale.

He played a year under McHale. Lost his starting job to Parsons but played pretty much at the same level off the bench as he did in prior years under Adelman. And then the team traded him to Minnesota for a draft pick that turned into Terrence Jone.

Bud is just what he is

This trade could happen if :

Rockets will give away Terry + Canaan/Garcia/Dorsey, especially Dorsey or Canaan

And return we get Cbud + 1 second round pick.

For some reason, it seems like all the high jumping white players lose their hops much earlier. I look at guys like Keith Van Horn, Bobby Sura, Dan Majerle. All those dudes jumped and ran like they were 32 by age 27.

Add the injuries to that curse that I perceive and I'm not sure Bud is going to be partying above the rim anymore.
