I identify team as FO+actual Rockets players. D-Mo is neither until he dons Rockets red and is on the court. Until then, I will always side with the team over the D-Mo, especially when the team has done nothing wrong. DD on the other hand, sides with any FA over FO during FA dealings and repeatedly whines about the FO, which is just flat out disgusting to me.
is this sh*T seriously not over yet? What is the hold up... i'm so bored yet anxious for this ordeal to be resolved. I have no desire to read the last 15 pages of every thread. How can this still not be resolved?
What you say is true, but DM also just matched the Nets offer originally. DMo was the one who didn't show up for a physical.
Well he matched it to the minimum level - which admittedly was BJ's fault but it sent a pretty poor message that he really didn't want him all that much. DD
An agent who lets this happen to their client should be fired. It's a failure of representation, plain and simple. The agent should get an offer from any team. All other RFAs got offers during the summer. Dmo didn't. Plain and simple.
If I made a bid on ebay and placed it on Automatic with a max value, does that mean I really did not want the item or I wanted it but did not want to overpay?
Lol. This isn't a give out as much money as you can just for grins scenario. More matched what he had to match. He said we want you here with the team. I was in record as being against matching because of the deadlines and impact to our cap this summer so it wasn't a no brainer. But DM matched nonetheless. That he later tried to rework the deal with both sides getting stuff they want stemmed from DMo refusing to show up for the physical.
Or that Morey thought the Nets' bonus incentives were a crock, as well as the stipulated option dates. See, you take it that means only that Morey didn't want DMo that much. Others get that Morey didn't care for parts of that offer sheet and was under no obligation to use them in his matching offer, per player-agreed-upon CBA rules. You think it makes sense to give an injured player more many that you need to in order to sign him. Apparently, Morey is more pragmatic and less emotional about these matters than you are -- exactly how a GM should operate.
Yes, it is easy to hide behind the RULES when dealing with human beings. Clearly DMo was pissed that they did not match the entire contract, and YES, that is on him and his agent. However, if you REALLY want someone you are going to make sure they are happy - Morey did as little as possible KNOWING full well that it would piss of DMo and that he could use that as a lever to move that 2nd year guarantee. Anyway, if you want someone - you don't nitpick, you work a deal that is a win win - if you want someone grudgingly - then you do what Morey did....which signals that he really doesn't want him that much. Hell trading him last year to Detroit for a low 1st round pick - was the same thing, and DMo knows it, which is a lot of the issue here...DMo wants to go somewhere he is valued - that is not in Houston, at least not by Morey. DD
There he goes again, railing on again about the great injustices we have somehow committed to this role players that no one in the league really wanted despite the Rockets doing everything right and it being D-Mo and BJ who committed mistakes after mistakes, wrong after wrong.
I can't believe how much of an issue we're having because of a role-player, who was only ever good for less than a year. This isn't James Harden we're trying to keep, folks.
Not only that, we developed him as well. We pushed him to build weight so he would stop getting pushed on his ass every play (now it's like ever 3-4 plays) and to practice his 3pt shot. We chose him over T-Jones. We have him a QO. We were the only team that anyone knows of who offered him a contract. We matched his contract. Then we re-worked it to give him more money. Yet, somehow, SOMEHOW, despite everyone with actual knowledge saying that D-Mo and BJ screwed up, it's the Rockets that wronged him. It's the Rockets who did him dirty. What a world we live in.
This is why Silver is a much better commish than Stern ever was. Stern goes through 2 lockouts and Silver gets **** taken care of before it even comes down to that.
