Not sure if this is what's happening. But if DMo failed the Rockets' physical, but passed the Nets', that tells me these "physicals" aren't very reliable, or at least not totally objective. Remember he failed the Pistons' physical, but he played for the Rockets last season and the Rockets gave him a QO. To me, that was an indirect "pass" of physical for the Rockets.
I agree with you. Sure championship teams get ringchasers, but the Spurs get hometown discounts from their star players because they love the team. OKC had a championship-caliber team fall apart because they didn't have money for all of them. Harden wasn't going to just take less so he could win a ring. But, Tony Parker could have gotten the max by leaving but wouldn't. Gonobili would have gotten a hell of lot more in the open market too, but wouldn't. Guys want to play for Pop.
My question to you is how should they help DMo? Your assumption that DMo is being hurt by all this because the Rockets aren't making information public is a bit shortsighted. At the base of it all, DMo and the Rockets agreed to the terms of the restructured contract; it's not as if DMo currently does not have a deal in hand and is waiting for the Rockets to give him one. DMo and his agent could have accepted the original offer the Rockets provided them and he could have been on the court already. But, no, they exercised their right to decline the offer, exercised their right to find another offer (why wait until the end of the year?), exercised their right to signed an offer sheet, etc. DMo being "hurt" by this isn't at the hands of the Rockets organization or just the Rockets alone. If anything, where was the outcry for his client's name and health to be cleared when Detroit's doctors did not pass DMo's physical?
This is actually really insightful. I was surprised the Nets passed Dmo but we did not. Perhaps there should be a rule going forward that if a team signs a RFA and he passes their physical that claiming the contract then does not give you the right to demand another physical. It weakens the player's bargaining position without any compensation. Just because another team wants your already agreed to contract doesn't mean they get to do a physical and renegotiate the entire contract. The fact that the nets did pass him and the rockets did not is going to be a huge factor going forward. I honestly think Morey is being a bit obtuse here. We got the one year deal out of the negotiation he can cut him july 15th and not hurt our cap space if he is a bust. No different than the 8mil offer originally. Dude just needs to chill imo. He is creating a working environment that makes people not want to come here. When a company you work for tries every single possible method to pay you less you begin to hate them. I completely understand why we cannot get another big player to sign with us. It all stems from this cold calculating way of treating our stars. The number of players who hate the rockets is growing and I do not think that is good for the long term health of the team.
You are wrong. Ginboli, Parker and Duncan all shopped themselves to get more money at various points.
He isn't applying for a job at Schlumberger, this is professional sports. Your physical health sort of matters.
Actually they didn't they offered him 7m, and a team option 2nd year. Everything had hooks in it. Look whatever you LIKE the way that Morey does things, I don't - you will pick and choose stuff that you like, I will pick and choose stuff I find crappy, we aren't going to ever agree - so we can agree that we have differing opinions. DD
Just FYI, it has nothing to do with this case, imso: CBA says examinations can just be interviews to put the player on record. If it is later found that the player was not truthful or knowingly withholding information regarding his ability to perform in a job requiring high levels of physical health, then they can void the contract and challenge any guaranteed money in arbitration. So, players don't lie or withhold info, and teams don't always feel the need for extensive examinations. DMo actually alluded to this wrt Detroit. He said something to the effect of "These physicals are weird. They just asked me questions."
There area couple things you don't understand: 1.) DD is always Right 2.) If you disagree with DD, See number 1 3.) If by chance you are proven to be right in your disagreement with DD, DD is still not wrong. He agrees to disagree with you. You are in a unwinnable battle in which you might as well beat your head against the wall. It will be less painful than the answer you seek !!
Yeah, that's my point. These don't seem to be objective scientific tests. So you can pass one and fail the other without even being examined "physically."
Don't sound so surprised. Can someone tell me what would have happened if DMo had just signed for the $31m match? When he failed the physical, would he just go back to the Nets? Did he screw himself by ripping up that contract and signing a new one for $35m instead?
So now team options are dirty business? Do you even care if the Rockets win or lose, or just that every tall guy you have a crush on becomes a millionaire?
