That has to be Morey's game. He's offering a one year deal substantially higher than the numbers being bandied about per year for a multi-year contract. That's my opinion, anyway. Makes sense. If Dalembert ends up working out, we reward him after using our cap space next year aquiring that star we've been expecting to see.
That was before Miami spent their entire $3M "mini-mid level" exception on Shane Battier. The Heat can only spend the remaining $2M of the "full" MLE, but that would trigger a $74M HARD CAP on Miami. Bottom line: At this point, the only way he can sign with the Heat is if he accepts the league minimum.
8 and 8 as a starter after 9 years in the NBA? I doubt he'll be the "star" we are looking for in his 10th year. If they give him max money (or anything close) for bumping it up to 10 and 10, we will become perpetual 1st round fodder for the length of his contract.
let him go back to the Kings..DM better get a C thru trade..clear shut out for the Rox this free agency.
What? How did you get the impression that that part of my post was about Dalembert? It wasn't. Good god almighty, a star is something Dalembert is not!
Maybe from this... I don't see it in him. I don't even think it's wise at this point to even take a flyer on him. There's a reason he's the last unsigned big man. Even Sac, wanted a 6'6" C over him - and I would too (if he was healthy).
I guess we don't substantially need his services next year. We need to get that 8 to 10th spot to satisfy the owner until he approves to get higher draft picks. Swing a deal for a better prospect in the draft, or trade for picks.
"after using our cap space next year aquiring that star we've been expecting to see." In other words, sign him to a deal after we use our cap space. Is my post that hard to understand? It is simply speculation. We don't know what Morey will end up doing, obviously. Spending a lot of our cap space on Dalembert after this season isn't in his plans, I hope.
Deck, if the Rockets sign Dalembert to a one-year deal and then want to use cap room next summer AND re-sign Dalembert, just note that, as a "Non-Bird" free agent, (a) his cap hold will be 120% of his 2011-12 salary and (b) the most he can be signed for without using pure cap space is 120% of his 2011-12 salary. Bottom line: Unless Dalembert's taking a discount in 2012-13, timing his re-signing may be irrelevant. He'll likely count 120% against the cap either way, which will further eat into the Rockets' available cap room. If you want Dalembert on the Rockets in 2012-13 AND maximum "non-Dalembert" cap space, then it actually makes more sense to sign Dalembert to a multi-year deal now (since you'll probably get him at a lower annual salary, and his 2012-13 salary would be capped at 104.5% of his 2011-12 salary).
Lock this thread up. http://www.foxsportsflorida.com/12/.../landing_heat.html?blockID=630806&feedID=3565 He's re-signing with the Kings. Another strikeout. Fire Murray!!!
Thanks for clearing that up. I wondered if I was getting far afield for someone who's not a capologist! At any rate, it sounds like the Kings are going to nab him. It also sounds like he wanted to be in Houston, from the quote by ascaptjack. Interesting news.
How can the KINGS have so many bigs? ! That is not right. Cousins Outlaw Thompson Hickson Whiteside Dalembert?
