Whatever Morey offers Dalembert, Im pretty sure its going to be a contract thats very movable to be part of a package in a future trade. I'll be surprised if he over pays. But it kind of scares me in how much Morey was offering Nene at the time of the Gasol trade. I didn't think Nene was worth that kind of money. Also remember, not only are the rockets giving up their cap space to sign Dalembert, but their also giving up their own 1st round draft pick to ensure they make the playoffs.
The Mavs did not get a single $5.2M TPE in the Fernandez and Brewer trade. They got SEPARATE TPEs: $3.1M for Brewer and $2.1M for Fernandez. You cannot combine player salaries to create larger TPEs. They are generate separately based on each outgoing player's salary. And, as you know, TPEs cannot be combined in trades. Given that the Mavs only have about $2-3M left of the Chandler TPE after trading for Odom, Dallas cannot possibly offer Dalembert more than the MLE without trading back salary. Even then, I bet Cuban would only use the $3M "mini-mid level", since he would face a hard cap of $74M if he used the full MLE (one of the biggest rule changes under the new CBA).
CH, why do you insist on confusing people? You're undoing the knowledge I'm trying so hard to drop on these folks!
That would be good for the Rockets. I just don't see the good in playing Golembert instead of one of our young bigs. Serves zero purpose. Ugh, please let these talks fail.
Very true, thanks for the aclaration. And the Mavs already used their miniMLE to sign Carter, so... they basically should be out of the run for Dalembert, right?
No thank you to Cato2.0 - folks we have seen this player before and most didn't like it. If he is signed please please do not over pay him.
If you are Dalembert and you get to choose between Dallas and Houston as comparitive offers, which team would you choose? Of course he will be on a contender in Dallas, but would get more playing time here in Houston. Now, being 30, I would bet he goes for the shot at the ring, if the money is the same. Nothing to see here my friends, like our good friend Yukon Cornelius says: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/CXpR2Tp_hxw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> DD
Yeah, I think you're right about Carter. DD, this means that Dallas basically can't offer him anything besides the league minimum, a very small salary via S&T or an outright player trade with Sacramento (unlikely).
The fact that he has not signed whatever we have offered does not lead me to believe that we are truly his first choice....etc... DD
I think it's probably down to Houston and Sacramento. Keep in mind, though, that if Morey is low balling him and if the Kings are offering a lucrative one-year deal, he may have to think long and hard about Sacramento's offer. If he comes back to the Kings, he'll have full Bird rights for 2012, when a bunch of teams will have a ton of cap space and no one to use it on. If he comes to Houston on a one- or two-year deal and isn't later re-signed, he has very limited Bird rights. That's at least worth a little further consideration. Especially if Morey's low balling him.
If the Rockets can lock in Dalembert to the right sized contract they could flip him in a season or two for a upcoming center who a team will find hard to keep for financial reasons.
Yeah, I hear ya, maybe DM is just waiting to see how these guys do in a couple of preseason games. It really sucks that the evaluation process is so short this year....really sucks. So many of our young guys could have used the entire summer working with this coaching staff. DD
