Nets and Rockets were leverage. One of the things Morey does well is to quickly flip his mistakes into something decent. Morey doesn't have enough magic to do that with a maxed out Nene. This is what I dreaded the most. Signing Chuck to a long term full MLE level deal isn't looking good right now.
Yeah, also Nets for the Howard trade... but for sure we were close. Thanks for your analysis, very accurate and interesting, as always.
I don't know, I think he used us for leverage to get a better deal.....and IMO, most players always settled for the largest amount of guaranteed money, and Denver gave him more than we could have, if I understand it correctly. DD
Thanks for this BT. Now, without amnestying Thabeet, what is the Rox situation for an offer to Dalembert and in general? Thanks. I'll hang up and listen.
I think Morey had the closest thing to Nene's signature as anyone would ever get. Morey was tearing up yesterday for a reason. He had special moves that were about to be made. Pau Gasol/Nene & Chuck was just the beginning...
I don't think he used us as leverage, I might be wrong but I think NJ offered like $15M. Of course you can't fault players for getting the best deal out there, situations change all the time. For example, Slowmile Swift decided to be noble and sign for the mid-level with us and a chance to contend, we ended up trading his ass back to Memphis.
Then let Josh scream something nonsensical and Rich Middle-Aged-Corporate-Kiss-Ass Lord say, "I couldn't dis/agree with you more."
Might as well sign Dalembert and shoot for the playoffs. Better to get that Nets obligation off the books now.
No idea....are you saying Denver's state income taxes make a difference? Perhaps, but you know that most states tax the players when they play in their state, so the Rockets players only get a 41 game Texas taxes situation and the rest of the taxes they pay in whatever state they play in...or country. DD
Yeah DD, think you are off on this one. Especially with our inside source, looks like Nene was giving us some strong interest.. connect the dots, he was waiting for the Pau trade. Could see Morey flipping what was left of our assets for Iggy or Josh Smith. Lowry Lee Iggy Nene Pau That'd be a pretty nasty 5.
I certainly could be, but the fact that he re-upped with Denver says a lot. Yeah, I totally forgot about the brother in law aspect...well done sir. Anyway, I generally believe players follow the money tree when everything else might dictate otherwise. DD
I don't know the terms of Jeff Adrien's deal, but I'll assume that it's a minimum salary deal and that he won't be waived. If the Rockets waive Blakely, Cousin and Lin, then the Rockets can offer Dalembert a starting salary of up to about $7.5M without having to make any other roster moves. This, however, would require the team to renounce all of its salary cap exceptions and TPEs. If they can work a sign-and-trade with Sacramento, the Rockets could offer Dalembert a starting salary of up to the full amount of the $7.35M Battier TPE and use it to absorb Dalembert's new contract via trade. This way, the Rockets would keep their other TPEs and their MLE and BAE. EDIT: The Rockets also don't have to waive Blakely, Cousin or Lin if they use the Battier TPE to acquire Dalembert via S&T. (FYI, the Battier TPE does NOT expire today. The Rockets have until at least February 2012 before it expires.)
Yup, count me in the camp that believes that Nene was waiting for us to do the Pau Gasol deal and then would sign here. Then stern F**ked us.
Even without any further moves to balance out the roster (which you KNOW Morey would have made), I like this roster to at least contend for a Western Conference Finals spot a hell of a lot more than our current roster: Kyle Lowry / Jonny Flynn Courtney Lee / Terrence Williams Chase Budinger / Marcus Morris Pau Gasol / Patrick Patterson Nene / Chuck Hayes / Jordan Hill Sigh.
