Honestly, this team officially tries so hard to hit 3's now, it's killing me! And we don't even have a real 3 point threat. Who do we have, Jason Terry? So when do we bring back Troy Daniels?
It's just lip-service. We are so bad at Moreyball we will be exhibit A of how not to play it. We have the reputation of shooting 3s, but honestly other teams are doing it better than we are--GSW, ATL, SAS, who else? If we keep shooting 3s even though we are so poor at it, it's because we don't have the post players and slashers. And don't get me started about our missed lay-ups and FTs.
The more the season progresses the More I'm starting to think Morey is extremely overrated. This philosophy is stupid, The players on the roster do not fit James well at all or his 3pt and attack ideology. And he foolishly extended the worst coach in the NBA.
But somehow we keep winning with it and him. True the offensive pieces this year don't fit quite as well as the past two years, but the team is more balanced overall now. We have a better win% so far this year than before and that's with a lot of games missed by very important rotation guys. What's the gripe again?
The reason our offense isn't as fluid as it could be is because this team hangs its hat on defense, and not every defender is a three and D guy.
The reason our offense isn't as fluid as it could be is because we have mediocre to subpar shooters up and down the roster.
[rquoter]The Rockets shoot more 3-pointers than any team in the league. That has not changed. They still take them instead of long two-pointers. They still score well inside, averaging the most points in the paint in the NBA going into the weekend and slipping to third-most after missing so many layups, especially against the Mavericks. Their problem is that they have shot those 3s horribly and when they shoot badly, they seem to settle for more 3s with little ball movement as if working on pregame shooting drills in an effort to find their shooting touch. The Rockets’ 3-point shooting is its best off penetration and passes out to the 3-point line, especially to the corners. But when they struggle, instead of doing what they do best, they seem to seek the 3-point shots they shoot worst. That has led a team taking a league-high 32 3-pointers per game to make a third-worst 28.4 percent. The players that are taking the most 3s, with the exception of Marcus Thornton who has made 33.3 percent, are shooting them worst with James Harden making 24 percent, Trevor Ariza 30.2 percent and Ty Lawson 28.1 percent. But it is not about how many they take. The Golden State Warriors take the second-most. The Rockets’ issues are about how they shoot them and how they react when they shoot them badly. http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterocke...aways-from-the-rockets-loss-to-the-mavericks/[/rquoter] 91/320 (28.4%) Terrence Jones: 4/11(36.3%) Jason Terry: 9/25(36%) Marcus Thornton: 18/54 (33.3%) Patrick Beverley: 7/21(33.3%) Trevor Ariza: 19/63(30.2%) Ty Lawson: 9/32(28.1%) James Harden: 23/96(24%) Corey Brewer: 2/16(12.5%) K.J. But ClutchFans wanted Rick fired. Just like they wanted JVG fired. Just like they wanted Rudy fired. Just like they want McHale fired. At least ClutchFans are consistent.
It's on Morey .... He's collected a group of players who don't shoot the 3 at a high enough rate to fit his plan. Nor does he have big men versatile enough to make it work.
He only geys attention when he has the ball. The stagnation with him when he doesnt have the ball doesnt help anyone. When you're a great player, you should be able to draw attention when v you dont have the ball. Jordan wad harder to stop in the triangle vs iso offense. Every cut he made, every faint, every jab step off the ball made tems react. Harden is still and motionless when he doesnt have the ball. Thats why its a struggle offensively even when a avg shoiter like he is gets hot for a stretch. I dont know if uts harden or McHale, but whomever it is, ut needs to be corrected.
So why do you think we don't get as many open threes? Is it weird that Trevor shot 40% in Washington but immediately had a lower % after coming to Houston? It might sound crazy, but maybe our coach doesn't have a good plan for getting people open, and maybe *clap clap play harder* actually means, run some weak side screen action to get open off the ball. I guess we won't know.
The only way I see this offense going to work is if we have a starting five of cloned Stephen Currys.
