Dumb. We don't need to be the best 3pt shooting team, we just need to be better at it. How well did Adelman's motion offense do on the Timberwolves?
And this is why Dwight Howard is, once again, so criminally underrated. Dribble penetration will increase and shots at the rim will increase because shot-blockers are worried about Dwight behind them. Weakside defenders are worried about the Dwight roll. He has such an affect on the game. His defensive inside presence deters shots from the rim, and thus creates more long-range shots, which lead to long rebounds, which lead to fast break points. Actually securing the defensive rebound quickly will also help. I truly don't think y'all understand how much a healthy Dwight will open up the offense. I really cannot draw many conclusions about the three point shooting until the healthy Dwight is back. Quite frankly, the Rockets were playing well when he was healthy.
This. Too many posters on here with very little bball knowledge or have the ability to understand context. We have some weaknesses but there is no doubt that we have played very well most of the year.
It really falls on both McHale and Morey. McHale isn't smart enough to know when to change up the game plan and adjust when something isn't working, but he's also handicapped by Morey with many players who don't fit. The style of offense he runs produces tons of wide open looks, but we lack the players who can consistently capitalize on them. The roster is horribly imbalanced, which further emphasizes how much we need Dwight back, and how silly it is seeing how underrated he's become.
The emphasis on threes plays a huge part as to why the Rockets are so up and down. Early in the year when Terry and Ariza were making everything the Rockets looked like legit championship contenders. As the season has worn on and those threes aren't falling the Rockets now look like they will struggle to get out of the first round. Like others have said, if this is the system the Rockets are going to stick with then they need to bring in players like Korver, Ray Allen, or JJ Redick who are true shooters. Currently the Rockets don't have one pure shooter on the team. Terry might have been that at one time, but those days have come and gone.
The 3pt philosophy works when 1> you have guys who move well without the ball 2> you have guys who can dribble-penetrate and dish 3> you have a dominant low post scorer who demands double teams and can pass the ball out when double teamed With the Rockets we have zero players who fit role 1, one player who fits role 2, and maybe a player in D-Mo who can fill role 3 if he continues to develop, D-12 is really not a dominant low post scorer, he gets most of his points on dunks, put backs, etc. Defensively we cannot seem to keep guys in front of us and our bigs want to wander away from the lane and get caught out of position when other PG dribble penetrate on us. Bottom line when the Rockets are "on" we are dang good but when we are "off" we are a hot mess...
You play to your strengths . Don't tell your PG to play in the post. Don't tell your center to shoot 3s. Don't tell mediocre 3pt shooters to run the most 3pt centered offense in NBA history---especially when its so easy to stop in the post season.
Do some of you not understand that shooting 33 percent from 3 is literally the same as shooting 50% from 2?
LOLOLZ. The Rockets v Blazers was the closet series by point margin in the playoffs last year..... How can you possibly say it's "so easy to stop"? You chicken littles just say stuff without having any actual knowledge.
We shot a putrid 20% and still jacked up almost 30 3s. Fortunately Toranto couldn't hit the broad side of a barn
