Right, I'd rather see Houston playing in May than waiting until late June when Houston picks in the lottery once again! I'd be satisfied with the playoffs & NY's pick at either #15-16 then hoping they trade up in the draft!

so where is the old thread about our 95% chance of playoffs this year?
It would be interesting to revisit.

Quit dwelling with the past. That won't get you anywhere.

They key here is going 4-1 with our final 5 games.

Didn't read the entire thread, but kiss my ass.

This team is going to the playoffs.

I would much rather us make the playoffs than get the 14th pick.

Because I'm sick of 0.500 ball? This team, as assembled, is going nowhere. A 4-1 first round exit isn't changing that. Without significant changes, this crew's ceiling is no higher than a 5th seed paper tiger.

I want to see a nucleus with a future, I want a team that can contend.

So long as Les can maintain a delusion of progress, a delusion that his "no rebuilding" vision is working, we are going to be stuck. It seems counter-intuitive, but we need an embarrassment to slap him and wake him up to reality. We need him pissed off enough that he agrees to firesale vets for youth.

And I'd much rather have an additional pick in this draft to start that process off. Want to give Lowry the boot? Worried that Dragic won't stay? Kendall Marshall is a fantastic guy to plug in as a backup point.

I was never cheering for us to tank. I wouldn't be upset if we had held on to the 6th seed and challenged for the 7th. But to be dancing between keeping our pick or backing into the postseason as the 8th seed? Take the pick and clean house in the offseason.

We're all Rockets fans, but some of us have been around much longer than others. The cyclical nature of life/sports is never more evident than life after Yao. The problem is that we had to watch Les rake it in and refuse to start rebuilding/trade Yao earlier. We're all tired, but it's going to take a little more patience to get where we all want to go. Regardless, if you want to swallow Les's Rocket Red Kool Aide, I understand. Instant gratification is so easily enjoyed....I know you want to win. But, right now it comes at a price.......
Why do we want at least two picks in the deepest draft in a decade and a half?

C'mon, not wanting the picks is the party line preceding the late fade. What do you expect the front office to say? Les wants to be "competitive".....

Look jsc, we've reached critical mass ...timing is everything....It's time to maximize ..The Rockets have players/assets that HAVE NEEDED to be moved, capspace & the picks.....The chains are coming off Morey and we need all the ammo we can muster RIGHT NOW.

I understand the frustration. I feel the same way. Theres a big difference in a young team holding on to the 6th seed and a team that is streaky at best who have the kind of flaws that have them loosing 4 of the most important games of the year against winnable opponents to loose their spot in the playoffs in the last week of the season.

It sucks that its obvious now that there is that difference in those two teams. If they dont win out the rest of the way, I agree its time to clean house a bit.

Half-empty Toyota Center is step 1. Missing the playoffs would be a step off the precipice.

I wanted the playoffs, I still think it'd be nice, but I'll take that #13/14 pick and NY's #16 pick. Combined with Lowry and/or Scola and/or Wooden PPat we might just be able to finally upgrade the team.

Watching other WC teams improve while we trudge through the mire is painful, painful.

Here are our draft picks for 2012:

2012 first round draft pick from New York
New York's own 2012 1st round pick to Houston (top 5 protected in 2012, top 5 protected in 2013, top 5 protected in 2014, and top 5 protected in the 2015 Draft). If Houston does not receive a 1st round pick from New York by the 2015 Draft, then New York will convey their own 2015 2nd round pick and 2016 2nd round pick to Houston. [Houston - New York - Sacramento, 2/18/2010]

2012 first round draft pick from Dallas
Dallas' own 2012 first round draft pick to Houston via the L.A. Lakers (top 20 protected in the 2012 draft, top 20 protected in 2013, top 20 protected in 2014, top 20 protected in 2015, top 20 protected in 2016, top 20 protected in 2017 and unprotected in the 2018 Draft). [Dallas - L.A. Lakers, 12/11/2011 and then Houston-L.A. Lakers 3/15/2012]

Here are the draft picks we owe other teams in 2012:

2012 first round draft pick to New Jersey
Houston's own 2012 1st round pick to New Jersey (top 14 protected in 2012, top 14 protected in 2013, top 14 protected in 2014, top 14 protected in 2015 and top 14 protected in the 2016 Draft). If New Jersey does not receive a 1st round pick from Houston by the 2016 Draft, then Houston will convey their own 2017 2nd round pick and cash to New Jersey. [Houston - Los Angeles Lakers - New Jersey, 12/15/2010]

2012 second round draft pick to Detroit
Houston's own 2012 2nd round pick to Detroit (top 40 protected in 2012, top 35 protected in 2013, top 35 protected in 2014 and unprotected in the 2015 Draft). [Detroit - Houston, 6/25/2009]

Since this draft is as deep as it is, do we make playoffs and give NJ our pick or just end the season and take the 14th and 15th/16th pick from NY and either try to trade both picks and a player (or 2) for a much higher pick???

I still believe we have a very good chance of making the playoffs and finish off these last 5 games 4-1. Suns and Dallas have a chance of falling out and missing the playoffs. Suns have a tough schedule coming up. Dallas also has to play at Chicago and Atlanta, which I believe they can't win judging by their numerous problems. Yes Rockets are playing pretty bad basketball too, but coming up with an ugly win tonight can give them back their confidence to play hard for the rest of the season and win games.

I really think blazers will beat utah tonight....Utah coming off emotional 3OT game against dallas and hoepfully will have a letdown..blazers always play good at rose garden ....
    OKC should beat suns.....
we need to win tonight but as long as Jazz lose tonight we still have a chance even if we lose to dallas....
Orland at Utah is not a gimme..and suns could beat utah also...

    Go Rockets!!!

Yes. And we can lay some of this at Stern and Co.'s doorstep for the insane schedule they forced on the players. Almost seemed like revenge for the lockout occurring. I know, every team had weird schedules, but still...

And since the Rockets seem to still have an "injury curse," (critical players get hurt at the worst times) it just seems amplified.

That and our coaching is horrible. The refs are really horrible. That loss to the Mavs last night pretty much ended our season. The Suns lost too but Jazz won. That about sums up our playoff chances. We have about a 15% chance of making it now.
