I think that's BS. I'm not defending what he did, but the "I'd like him to be coach but he has this baggage you know" thing reeks of woke cancellation.
I mean...I don't disagree with you and am incredibly over the woke ****. I just can't see the Rockets hiring him due to that. Unfortunately.
If not hiring someone over their displayed gross levels of unprofessionalism at work is woke then the business world has been woke since its birth The guy did something that distracted the entire organization away from basketball and damaged relations to the point of causing the team to lose its coach during training camp. Might as well call the Cavs woke for "canceling" KPJ after his locker room fits while we're at it, god forbid if anything has consequences.
Get outta here. 1- Please don't get me started on the business world. There are no saints there; the feats of businessmen and politicians is the worst kept secrets of all time. 2- "The guy did something that distracted the entire organization away from basketball" because they couldn't just do their jobs and leave the rest to pertinent professionals?? 3- "The guy did something [...] causing the team to lose its coach?? Are you joking? Did Udoka beg the front office to fire him?? I'd like a bottle of what you're drinking, man. It would last me at least for a year.
I You added the woke extreme, overlooking the simple. It about "all things equal" between candidates and contenders, the one bringing distractions is less hirable than a cleaner record. And the distraction itself can keep resources away from from improving the product adequately. And I say this as someone who has an unfair blemish on my record. A cloud of suspicion of "Can I trust you" and "watch out for this guy" can linger over everything. Some places dont want even minor temporary headache. (Ironically, "woke" here is hiring the person of color over the white guy, so now its about different levels of woke)
Udoka cheated on Nia Long. That right there shows poor judgement. Then he did it with a co-worker's wife. Worse judgment. With that decision making he might keep KPJ at PG.
I like that he's more familiar with our organization too. Ime is a really good leader. I think Ime and Darvin Ham are similar coaches in personality/discipline. I just see Nick Nurse coming in here getting a fresh start and installing a championship level philosophy, mentality and setting that would connect with not only the players but the entire organization. Rockets need this badly.
When u are the coach the expectation is that u are gonna conduct yourself appropriately, not start bopping your colleagues’ wives. That doesn’t usually create a good atmosphere in an organization. There are a lot of talented coaches out there. Pretty desperate to go after someone Boston let go after a finals appearance because they didn’t think he was a good guy.
John Granato, long time Houston talk show host (and friend of Tilman), mentioned that sources within the Rockets have Nurse, Udoka and Frank Vogel as potential head coaching candidates.
If it was down to Nick Nurse v Ime Udoka, u go with the guy we have history with and has won a championship. If it was Ime Udoka vs the others, u should probably go with the guy who recently led his team to the finals. Ime Udoka got suspended for his office romance and has served his time, choosing to not hire the competent coach b/c his past misdeed is stupid.
