Don't buy the "rumor" at all, but Lawson for Dragic works in a one for one player deal. Miami saves on its cap hit this year and can let him walk at the end of the season, if they wish, also getting "out from under" Dragic's deal if they aren't happy with him (buyer's remorse?). Houston gets Dragic and his big 5 year deal, along with the increased cap hit. The hypothetical is that we would count on the huge cap increase starting next season, one would assume, to make Dragic's contract less onerous.

What if the price was just Lawson + Dekker (or Jones)?

And Dragic is on a 5 year deal, he has no say in being traded. If he came here everybody would make up.

Some beat writer suggested Howard + Beverely + Dekker for Whiteside + Dragic + Deng.

Dragic would fit in well here. He's a fast break PG, not a slow-it-down half court guy that Miami and trying to make him. 5/90 though is ridic

    No it doesn't. We're hard-capped at $88.74 million.

    1) Dragic has been pretty bad all season, the Heat would be selling very low

    2) Miami just traded away Chalmers; and Tyler Johnson is nowhere near starting caliber material

    3) Dragic took a bit of a discount to stay with Miami, I would be shocked if they moved him so soon.

So - Rockets may be interested as he'd be a good fit, but Riley is eyeing Dragic/Wade/KD/Bosh/Hassan, what outside of Howard could we give them that would significantly upgrade their team?

    Well, that's a hell of a note! Damn ESPN's stolen "Trade Machine" gizmo. There's a flaw! :-D-

Not sure if it works technically, or if you need Deng (though having another wing that is similar to Ariza gives you options), but something like this does make some sense.

I'd rather keep Bev and let them keep Deng.

Only way I would consider that is if Whiteside says he re-signs here. I still don't see Rockets making any significant movement. They're dreaming of a Harden Howard and Durant pairing which I don't know would necessarily work. Howard still wants touches and he would get the ball even less with those two guys together.

Well in that case, if Dragic's price was basically that crap Riley will be able to find much better deals.

Joshua Smith is a center and I doubt he'll ever be in great shape

Yeah it doesn't recognize everything, but its still a good tool for quick dollar for dollar trades. It doesn't recognize the hard cap, and it doesn't account for teams taking on players that they don't have enough roster spots for. You could trade like 10 rookie deals for Lebron James in the trade machine, and give the Cavs 23 players and the deal will be accepted. Stuff like that.

I think its still a useful too though for getting creative with 3 & 4 team deals. I'd be willing to bet that this was stolen from a team that already created one for themselves. My guess is a pissed off ex front office member still had access to it and sold it off the IP. ESPN changes something here and there and sells it as their own.

(Clutch doesn't know ANYTHING about this right???.... cough cough Chad Ford's lottery machine cough cough)

    ....

Reg Lawson for Dragic... a few more players involved and it can get done. Include McDaniel and Gerald Green and its pretty much dollar for dollar with the Rockets taking on 200k of the 500k something extra they have allotted under the hard cap. No need for anyone to poo poo on your post. If you want to talk about a fun Lawson for Dragic fake trade.... you just go on and do it! (would love to get Gogi back FYI even though he would be terrible value playing next to Harden... I don't care... I love Gogi).

I think a lot of teams want to do SOMETHING. The dominance of the Warriors has left a lot of teams scratching their heads and wondering what they can do to become true contenders. I think only the Spurs are satisfied to go into the playoffs with what they currently have.
