Honestly, I don't see how The dude could be any worse that Cook. All Cook can do is jack 3's...that's all. He can't play defense worth a lick. So you are telling me Dorsey can't be any worse than a pathetic defender who can open jack wide open 3's? Let's not act like Cook doesn't suck offensively and isn't getting ripped a new one by the Lakers bigs when they are on the floor....
Gotta figure the coaches know best. Cook bricked his shots a few games ago, but he didn't look too bad in the few games he got into during the season. I think many of us would love to see Dorsey come in and have any sort of defensive success, but the coaches spend way more time with him than we do. I trust our coaches.
It wont hurt. He is already under contract and who knows he can produce like chuck hayes defensively with a better offensive game.
Let Dorsey clean Kobe's clock and take him out of the game in the first quarter.... Dorsey gets thrown out and Houston gets the W
It would be really nice if there was a Moses Malone, Charles Barkley, Dream or Elvin Hayes type on the bench to step in and catch some minutes, but there isn't. Yao and Deke are both out and the Rockets could have folded and raised a Surrender Flag, but they didn't. They took the remaining troops and played on much to the chagrin of the Lakers and their fans. To have Joey available and not spend some Prep time with him would be inconsistent with the team's resolve to carry on in the face of adversity. I don't have expectations that Joey would play 30 minutes in a game and be a primary weapon in the offense. The Lakers have had difficulty in controlling Brooks and Lowry on the dribble penetration and coupled with the relative softness that Bynum, Odom and Gasol have displayed so far, I wouldn't mind seeing what Joey can do if the alternative is Cook gunning on the perimeter. Be Prepared!
He can take Cook's role completely. At least when Dorsey airballs a three-pointer, the Lakers will get the ball out of bounds instead of the long rebound and fast break opportunity they get when Cook bricks it off the front iron.
Which r****ded Management person from detroit ever put that on the table. While that is what the Rockets might have wanted Detroit never even considered such a deal. never. Check your facts dude. Billups was never on the table until after Tmac had shown a penchant for quiting and lost most of his trade value. Billups became expendable when Stuckey started playing so well. And all the Pistons wanted was an expiring contract and a test on I verson for one year was the perfect deal for them. This offseason Tmac becomes the Iverson for the Rockets. If they want. I hate it when people criticize the Rockets based on some imaginary scenario that exist only in their head.
true that big homey. pistons never had that deal in place. in fact, dumars would be an idiot if he even pondered that move.
a second rounder that doesn't pan out is hardly a failure. heck, late first rounders rarely become starters. compare this to the Bokis, Snyders, Eddie Griffins, and Luther Heads.
You must be the the only person here that doesn't know anything about it. FACT: Detroit was rumored to propose the trade for Tmac. The Rockets said they wouldn't trade Tmac and declined the rumor which was a big mistake. Iverson was Detroit's second option after they couldn't get Mac. Get your facts str8 before trying to go off on me, Old Man "smoking" Rock. I know my stuff.
Yeah he aint stupid enough to trade Billups and Prince for Tmac... He traded Billups for Iverson. That was a smart move huh?
Perhaps he said it because Mario Chalmers and DeAndre Jordan were the next two picks after Dorsey. Chalmers has already become a decent starter and Jordan showed flashes while having legit center size, something we could use. Definitely too early to judge whether or not Dorsey is a bust though.
My stomach turns when I see Brian cook come off the bench it is either, the Lakers will get back into game or that this game is totally lost. I would rather see those 5 to 12 minutes go to Dorsey or White. I figure Dorsey can play tough and make the Lakers bigs work on defense, while he gets an occassional rebound. On the other hand, we play small and let White come in and maybe hit an open 3 or give a few momentum dunks.
I wanted to give Cook the benefit of the doubt, but the guy has been an empty jersey for us in the minutes he's played. Maybe one three-pointer he's made. But for an 'outside specialist', he hasn't shown much. On D he gets killed. Dorsey at least is a wide body. So what if he can't make a hook shot? His body isn't built for a side-to-the-basket game. He can help by filling up the lane on D, rebounding, and if he can learn a close-in bank-shot or just slam it home, then he can be useful on offense since he's so wide that people will have to foul to get near him.
exactly... Landry and Brooks both went to NBA D-leagues and did not play for awhile. Were people saying that they were busts back then too? Give Dorsey some time
