It's when you look closer, and start counting, that the Rockets' schedule takes shape, and looks particularly foreboding.

There are a whopping 22 back-to-backs; 15 end on the road.

That's more than any other team in the neighborhood (Dallas, San Antonio, New Orleans, Memphis). That's more than the Rockets have had in a decade. That is far more than a team already forced to step back with Yao Ming out and Tracy McGrady trying to come back wanted to see.

Funny how Tracy McGrady has become so crucial to the Rockets again.

They cannot predict when he will be back on the court, no matter how well things have gone through the early stages of his rehab in Chicago. He seems committed and determined, but coming back from microfracture surgery is tough and unpredictable. Many of the other guys whose struggles were pretty committed and determined, too. That is required to succeed; it does not guarantee it or determine the timetable.

If, however, we can assume that McGrady will be back at some point, and that he will bring something the Rockets do not otherwise have, he could help change their season as he has when coming back from injuries prior to last season's failures.

Either that, or he might fetch someone that can in a trade.

Either way, with all that has happened and has been said, whether he plays for the Rockets or (less likely) someone else, McGrady can play a huge role in the season to come.

I was complaining about our back to backs when the schedule leaked out and I got ripped for it.

How do you get so many back to backs in such a big season...

If the Rockets win anyway, they'll mention it on ESPN. Ernie will ask Kenny and Charles about it on TNT. (Charles will say that it won't last.) And they'll both get on with their coverage of the Cavs, Lakers and Celtics.

22 back to backs...is that the most in the league for that category? Also how does the NBA determine schedules...is it SOS like in the NFL or are there other factors (outside of necessary division/conference games) involved?

The good thing is now we don't have to listen to TNT or ESPN rave about the other team, {during the playoffs my tv went mute alot because of TNT, I believe Doug Collins} raving about how great the fakers and Kobe were. It got real old, real quick. Looking forward to hearing Bill, Clyde & Matt again

TRUE dat! Every time anything happened it was because Kobe had a boo-boo or the Lakers weren't trying. Man, that was some of the most asinine commentating I have encountered in all of my sports experiences.

dont worry. once we string together some wins, TNT or ABC will pick us up. if we win, we are going to get a nat'l tv spot later in the season.

The Lakers get screwed the most: although the only have 20 total back to backs (which is average this season), only 1 of their back to backs are against an opponent also playing a back to back -- 19 of their back to backs are against opponents with at least a day's rest. On the other end of the spectrum are Charlotte, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and San Antonio, who only have 9 back to backs against opponents with a day or more rest.

What about the number of times each team gets to prey on another team that is coming off a back to back when they themselves are rested?

The Bobcats are involved in 30 back to backs as opponents, weird. Denver has it pretty good, facing 18 tired teams while they have some rest (and only 6 back to backs where both teams have zero rest); Orlando also has a good schedule: 17 tired opponents, and only 3 back to back to back to backs.

Yes, It did happen in reverse before where the Rockets had a national TV games but since the team was not doing well, the television network switched games. I forgot what year this happened. So, it is possible that the networks would give the Rockets some time if and when they are surprising people with wins and Tmac or by some miracle Yao comes back.

I started getting very tired of Clyde and the rest always being over biased.

The Rockets are predicted to be bad next year. Why would anybody who isn't a Rockets fan want to watch them?
