Seems like we have never had a legitimate true PG in our entire history. Not a good one anyways. We've been starting specialists or scorers out entire existence.
This thread makes me feel sad. It does seem we have never had a great PG. The fact is Kenny Smith is probably the best one and he was never that great. Sam would have been #1 if we had not traded him. I have some hope CP3 will one day play for the ROx,
John Lucas and Sam Cassell both had abbreviated careers with the Rockets for different reasons. John Lucas played like a hall of fame point guard when he was not dealing with his personal demons and Cassell was a multi-all star point guard in his prime. Calvin Murphy, Robert Reed, Sleepy Floyed, Steve Francis, Aaron Brooks were point guards based on need, size or something other than true point guard skills. Kenny Smith and Allen Levell were also true point guards IMO but not as good as we would have wanted.
Out of Rockets? I'd say so. He was huge during the 22 game win streak and he may have been the main factor we were able to put up a fight during the last Utah playoff series. He gets hated on, but dude was consistent quality at defense and ball handling. I'd take him over Kenny Smith any day of the week as far as top 10 all time Rockets Point guards go. Also Calvin Murphy, no question is the best. Someone close this thread.
This is about right...I can go along with this. But taking reputation out of the equation, I like Lowry and Sam Cassell the best. They both have a nice mix of IQ, wily tricks, and desire to win. Sam was better on offense but I like what Lowry brings on defense (50% of the game).
I understand you weren't a fan of Steve's IQ, however, "Lowery" is spelled L-O-W-R-Y, "ware" is spelled W-E-A-R and "Floyed" is spelled F-L-O-Y-D. Otherwise, yes, Steve's basketball IQ was questionable.
Well, that was back when molesters were still tough defenders who got under your skin. Not what the name implies today.
Nobdy say steve francis...please. Thats just like saying tmac is a better 2 than drexler. Sure he had flashy iso plays all game long but he didn't do anything. Calvin imo

While one was putting up a fight during the Utah playoff series and LOSING, other was putting up a fight during the Utah, Orlando, Phoenix series, making his shots, and WINNING. There is absolutely NO WAY I would take Rafer over Kenny. Kenny made his open shots which gave the superstars on his team room to operate. Rafer bricks his shots making the opponents cheat off of him and concetrate on the superstars.
