Don’t forget the better-than-average chance we’d be getting less than a full season of KD in the lineup. And if things don’t go great, a disgruntled superstar is a distraction (as KD has been at his last few stops). AND even if it works out pretty well, next summer we’ll have to pony up a couple more years at $60M+ per or he’ll take his silky jumper elsewhere. To me, the downside of potentially torpedoing this years-long rebuild makes it not worth the slim possibility that we get a title out of an aging star. Better to look for a younger guy with untapped potential.
Uhh yes? I am pretty confident the Rockets will be better in 2025 with KD than Brooks and Green. Dealing those guys - I have no real issue with, I will pay for their Uber to the airport. The issue for me is the 1sts that would be included. Green is mediocre at this point and while Brooks is a good player - I have Tari and Jabari waiting. KD shooting 50/40/90 and scoring 25+ points a game on like 15 shots gets me pretty hyped.
Agreed. I don’t think they take a Jalen and Dillon deal without picks. Happy to throw in #10 but I don’t want to give up any of those other picks. I suspect it ends up being Bari, Dillon, filler and #10.
Yeah - not so sure that Curry's leadership is as important as you think. Jordan, Olajuwon, Jabbar, Bird, Bryant, Shaq and many others did not make their teammates feel comfortable and welcome - and if Curry made his teammates feel so welcome, then why did KD leave and not want to come back? Curry is a great player, and the greatest three-point shooter overall in NBA history - but he wasn't even the best player on his team when Durant was there... and Harden was the best player in the world for a 3-4 year stretch. My purpose isn't to downplay Curry as much as it is to point out that it is very arguable that the second best player in the world over the last 25 years has been Kevin Durant - and even at 37 years old, I would selfishly enjoy watching him on the Rockets .... Durant can do something things as a shooter and scorer that no one else has been able to do, and that includes Curry.
May want to become an Uber driver, I'm sure @Nook is a generous tipper. I know you'd love to do the honors .
I really hope we include Jalen in the KD deal instead of Bari. I think Bari still has solid trade value and could be used in another move to bring in someone better. KD’s a big piece, but we’ll need more to truly contend. If a team like the Mavs ends up moving AD, we could put together a strong package with FVV, Bari, and a bunch of picks. Jalen is viewed as a negative asset at this point, so if KD really wants to come here and the market for him is light, Jalen probably has to be part of that deal.
Replacing two of your lowest-feel guys on the roster with an all timer (even though carrying a senior citizen ID) and the right answer is not that hard to get.
We would be better in 25. You are right that we should not trade away more than 1 pick for Durant, because of his age and we should not extend him more than 1 extra year. I think we would just be better by letting FVV walk, letting Amen lose to realize his potential sooner, and using some draft capital and/or Jalen/Dillon to re-balance the team.
I don't see a deal with Jalen Green to the Suns being done. There has to be a third team that actually wants Jalen Green enough to give value to the Suns. Starting to seem like either Bari or multiple picks get traded. I think we roll the dice with the picks and keep them.
Jabari and tari contract situation is gonna be a big factor, cause am sure some team is gonna overpay for them and rockets would have to match, to me it's easier to find a jabari tari type player than green with that 10th pick , that's only reason I lean towards jabari package over green, stone showed he can get good wings, but his other positions are still question marks
I just dont really think KD moves the needle that much tbh. Like do we reach the 2nd round now because of him being added, or do we reach the 2nd round anyways because of growth. Does he bring us to a finals? i highly doubt it. Like whats the benefit of wasting assets on a short term rental that doesnt propel us in to serious contention.
I don't understand this. Do you think they are signing Green or Brooks to big new contracts starting or after '26 with the players behind them? This board has some magical thinking where the pieces we might trade for KD are otherwise on the team forever on affordable contracts. The replaceability of the assets we are comparing is not even close.
My guess is that it would take Green, Brooks, No. 10, and another pick. Possibly JSJ has to be included instead of the another pick and Brooks, but the salaries would be really tight so I'm not sure it can be done with JSJ instead of Brooks.
This right here. We don't beat the Thunder in the next 1-2 years. KD is not on our timeline. If we could get KD at a discount with JG, Filler, and #10 then you can take the risk.
Durant was one of the very few best players in the world. He was simply very good last year, probably in the ~15th-25th range among players in the NBA. He would not have made All NBA if everyone were fully healthy. He has shown definite progressive decline the last two years, evident in his impact metrics, on court team success, eye test, and every performance statistic other than PPG and FG% splits. It’s not surprising or a shot at Durant. He’s turning 37. He will be worse next year than last year, very possibly precipitously so. The year after again, he will be worse than that. Nobody has ever avoided this. Unfortunately when you trade for a player you trade for his next few years, not his last few years. Paying a supermax contract for those years is something a square FO would do, not a sharp one.
What’s hard to understand. I simply said that we shouldn’t trade away a haul for Durant and we would be better by simply letting Fred walk and use some of our assets to get better. Jalen and Dillon are some of our assets that MIGHT be needed to re-balance our roster, maybe not. Replacing FVv with Amen will make us better even if we do nothing else.
