If you look at the Pacers and Thunder's approach... acquiring aging veterans has NOT been their model to get to the NBA Finals.

The Pacers traded for Haliburton, Siakam, Nesmith, and Toppin. All fairly young, with the exception of Siakam, who isn't that old (31).

The Thunder traded for SGA and Caruso and signed Hartenstein and Dort... and nailed some draft picks (Chet, Jalen Williams).

Finding high ceiling players who haven't turned the corner yet in their careers, but are still young, has worked nicely (SGA, Haliburton are examples). Trying to repurpose disgruntled 37 year olds is not the championship formula... unless the price tag is SUPER LOW.

Emphasis on "Finding high ceiling players who haven't turned the corner yet in their careers, but are still young, has worked nicely"

We have a team full of that already. We're talking about filling offensive holes and these holes might not even be there in a year or two. We are not going to win with KD. He's been in the league going on 18 years and he's shown he can't be the undisputed #1 guy on a title roster. Let this dude go somewhere else, especially if it costs any of the young guys.

If you can get him for absolute pennies on the dollar, that's different... but that doesn't seem to be the case.

@JTGatlin really just said “don’t miss out on KD because of Jabari Smith”

That's how it feels. It isn't the Rockets' fault the Suns gave up so much for an overhyped team. They might have succeeded if they hadn't traded for Beal. I'm still shaking my head on that one. It's like Beal was their new baby boy, you can see no wrong when he arrives:

"Makes $50,000,000 per season, he's always hurt, his skills replicate Devin Bookers', we still have no big or point guard.........he's perfect!"

Really stupid. No one else is giving up anything. We would be bidding against ourselves. The Spurs don’t really want to give up Vassell and no Ware from Miami, but yet we must give up Jalen and Jabari and a top #10 pick? Jackson Gatlin is desperate.

Trey Murphy III, Coby White, Derrick White, etc. there are plenty of young guys that might break out like Brunson, Hali, or SGA that I’d rather trade for than KD.

I don’t want to root for FVV & KD. If it was just KD and the boys I’d be hyped but that FVV & KD combo has me a little sick

When we needed him to come years ago he took the easy way out and signed with the warriors. Cost us two rings. Now he's damaged goods and wants to come ruin our fun young team? No thanks, ship has sailed. He can stay where he's at unless he wants to take a giant pay cut.

Gambo: Still expect something will happen this week. So much stuff being reported, speculated on. I don't have a lot of change from what I said originally.

He doesn’t want to go to Minnesota. Miami does not have a great offer. With that being said, doesn’t mean you can’t change the offer. There are ways to get deals done. No team is out. You’re trying to get the best deal. The best deal is the Timberwolves right now. Houston, Jabari & Jalen Green, we’ve been talking about that for 3 months. The Spurs don’t want to put in #2 or Castle. Wolves would have the best option of veteran players & draft assets.

If Spurs put in #2 or Castle, it’s a done deal.
Rockets: Green & Jabari and Suns don’t want Green.

Derrick White turns 31 in couple of weeks. He's already had his break out.

It would be a mistake to miss out on KD for holding firm on someone like Jabari or Tari, when one of them is unlikely to even be here long-term.

Reminder: we cannot pay all seven of our draft prospects.

Doesn’t mean you trade them for someone who’s about to retire in 2-3 years. There will be other trades.
