    From Feigen:

I wonder if this means Garcia and Delfino are at least behind these two in their order of preferences or if they are getting better offers $ wise than Houston is allowed to pay.

    Or maybe the Rockets:

    - Have been in contact with Garcia and Delfino already since they were allowed to talk to them before now.

    - Want to talk to as many options as possible for leverage/best fit/value.

    - Want to hang out in LA for follow ups without seeming like they're just sitting there twiddling their thumbs, desperately waiting for Howard.

Three point shooting ace and a defensive modes wing. Both would be great fits

Were they allowed to talk to them before now? I noticed that the Lakers apparently had to wait until 12:01 to talk to Dwight just like everyone else. That seemed kind of odd to me, but I don't know all of the rules for free agency in regards to when a player's current team can no longer have contact with them.

I'd like to bring Garcia back... I think Brewer/Garcia would be a solid backup duo!

Rockets to Meet with Corey Brewer & Mike Dunleavy

    Per: Jonathan Feigen

The Houston Rockets emerged from their meeting with Dwight Howard feeling that everything was “very promising” with the potential for him to join the team, so the Rockets will now turn their attention towards finding potential role players to pair with the highly coveted center.

According to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, the Rockets next meetings will be with forwards Corey Brewer and Mike Dunleavy.

Houston doesn’t feel that they need to focus on a fall-back plan because of how the conversation went.

Howard wants to win now and Houston could very well be the best of his options.

Free agency kicked off just after midnight, so be sure to stay tuned to FanSided.com throughout the free agency period as we keep you up to date with the latest news and rumors from around the league.

Fallback plan if Dwight doesn't sign

    /sarcasm

These are good role players. I'm not too high on Brewer personally, but he is a difference maker. In some ways good, in some ways bad.

Yes - I hoping Rocket could try sign Mike Dunleavy to mini-MLE after signing DH12.

Corey Brewer and Dunleavy become instant 3rd or 4th offensive weapons that is a fall back when DHo does stay in LA.

The fact that we are trying to plan secondary moves after Dwight doesn't mean we don't have contingency plans. I hate how we're being painted like we think it's in the bag. Makes us look super foolish.

Unless it is so in the bag and they are holding back by not saying it's a done deal. I mean Morey said 100% sure he could clear space for Howard and at 12:01 he delivered. Kinda gotta believe they know what they are talking about. But you can hate it and if it fails you are right.

I never really saw anyone definitively explain that the lakers weren't allowed to talk to him. Was there a moratorium on talking to all impending free agents, even for their current teams? Would it be possible to "tamper" with your own player? I took the kupchak at 9:01 thing to be a largely symbolic move by the lakers.

Nevertheless, Garcia and Delfino weren't free agents, the Rockets had to decline options/waive them, so it seems to me that they would at least have been able to talk to them up to that point, if not after.

I have no problem with either but I'd rather have Delfino and Garicia back...

One useful thing that the Rockets can do with Dunleavy and Brewer that they can't do with Delfino and Garcia is acquiring them via sign and trade.

If the Rockets sign Dwight, all they have to make straight up FA signings with are (1) the room mid-level exception (up to 2 years, starting at $2.652M/yr), and (2) the minimum salary exception.

One cannot count on Garcia and Delfino not getting offers at amounts greater than these and, also, once the room mid-level exception is used, it is not available for filling another need (a PF, for example).

With Brewer and Dunleavy, doing a S&T with, for example, Royce White's contract plus that of DMo, you can offer him up to $4.6M-- not that you'd want to pay either of them this much, but mechanically it's an option and even if you end up paying them less via an S&T, it's one way to land a guy while preserving the room mid-level exception for later use.

I've always liked son of Chicken Man. I thought he was going to be a star when he turned pro. He's had a solid career, at this point I view him as a three point specialist that can do other things as well.

Don't mind Brewer, he has hurt us in a few games in the past with his energy and he can get hot from the field.

and Dunleavy i thought had a decent season for the Bucks, just another three point gun and an upgrade over Delfino

Dunleavy is a better ball handler and player

Hopefully it's GSmith, not DMo with Royce White.

Little hesitant on Brewer. Not exactly a 3 and D player, but he really wants to be one.

Good fit for the team as constructed, but basically coming off the bench, so limited piece for Howard. Think though he fills the Matt Bullard role and would be a good pick that Dunleavy is.
