lol good for you and good for your boy! Again, i couldn't care less who gets more ROY votes, it's beyond irrelevant. What matters to me is who would be better for the rockets when it starts to matter, in 2-3 years. If edey plays the way he has played so far, he will get zero ROY votes and while i know you will be heartbroken, i hope you will eventually get over it!
Oh, I guess you and I are arguing different points, hence the disagreement. In my view, it's irrelevant who will "better for the Rockets". That's water under the bridge. I was happy with the Reed pick for the Rockets and never advocated taking Edey. So if you think I'm arguing that the Rockets should have taken Edey, nope. All I'm saying is that Edey is a solid player. That's it. Don't "reed" anything else in to it. I never understood the Edey hatred. For example, I can say with 99.9% confidence that Edey will not get zero ROY votes. Saying as such, seems irrational. My prediction is it looks like Edey will get more ROY votes. But as you say, and I agree with you, it's not that important who gets more ROY votes. What is important is will Reed grow into the player the Rockets need. I'm optimistic. I think Reed has the 'it' factor.
ROY is mostly about opportunity. Edey got drafted into the best possible situation, a team with no center and a perfect guard for him. There’s also a MASSIVE difference between “edey is a solid player” and “rockets future is blown by not taking him”, which is what the thread is about. Could Edey become a solid role player? Sure. Could he become a decent starter? Possibly. Can he become an allstar? In my opinion absolutely not a chance.
Yes, true, the thread is "Rockets blown future'. To clarify, I never once said that and think it's a stupid thread title. Even if Reed doesn't amount to anything and Edey becomes a perennial all-star, that still doesn't mean the Rockets future is blown. Also agree that Edey got drafted into the perfect situation, which is party why I think he'll get plenty of ROY nods. Whether he eventually becomes an all-star, we'll see. I think it's premature to speculate but he's off to a fine start.
I see your point. Maybe they could all fall under a "missed opportunities" thread. Truth be told I like the discussion on Edey, just feeling like it probably no longer belonged here.
Maybe on a bad team he could put up a bunch of counting stats ala enes kanter but he will always be a defensive liability and limited offensively
Edey will be unplayable in the playoffs in any meaningful moment that is dictated by higher pace or 1-2 possession games. That pretty much applies to all old school plodding type centers with no range in the modern NBA. We would eat him alive with our simple PNR let alone downhill rim pressure off of DHO.
Edey matched Sengun in round one with 10 less minutes. It was only his second game. I don't think we'll be running circles around him to say the least.
Same negative things being said about Edey now were being said about rookie Yao. Edey looks good and he’ll figure it out. Just need to stay healthy which historically doesn’t seem likely.
I wanted Edey because I'm not sold on Smith Jr. Edey is going to be a problem with his size and skill. That said, I'm a Rox fan.
