Serious question. When the Griz and Spurs play, will Edey even be the primary defender on Wemby? Wings seem to be more effective on him than bigs. The Rockets do the best job on Wemby in the whole league. Wemby acknowledged that last year. Brooks has shut him down 3 times so until someone does better, he's the reining Wemby-stopper. Ultimately, Wemby is going to be a problem for everyone. It will take good team defense to slow him down
Wemby's issue with bulkier guards/forwards is that it's hard for him to dribble away. He can't push them and when he tries to take a shot, he's out of balance so most of his attempts were not successful.
How is Edey a defensive anchor? Memphis' defense has been better when he is off the floor. Edey has a grand total of 1 block this season - that's not per game, thats total.
Yes, he was two time Naismith player of the year. Let's take a look at the list of the last 12 Naismith Player of the year winners 2024 Zach Edey 2023 Zach Edey 2022 Oscar Tshiebwe 2021 Luke Garza 2020 Obi Toppin 2019 Zion Williamson 2018 Jalen Brunsen 2017 Frank Mason III 2016 Buddy Hield 2015 Frank Kaminsky 2014 Doug McDermott 2013 Trey Burke Does that list get you excited?
Future blown by not taking Jamal Shead with the second round pick and wasting it on AJ Griffin. Jamal Shead is killing it in Toronto and Steal of the draft. He was UH product and from Houston also
Jamal Shead in 16 mins off the bench today. 9 assists and 0 turnovers and 1 steal Last two games before this one 10 assists and 2 turnovers
Not exactly Edey but another rookie or two will come out of this Draft better. It is no shame though that other humans have more success.
Not when it comes to the NBA. The NBA game is much faster and it requires a different skillset. If you don't have skills that translate to the NBA, it doesn't matter what you did in college. Drew Timme is a great example. 3 time all american. He was a stud NCAA player. Not so much in the NBA. When it comes to the NBA, it's about skills not awards.
I always get shocked at his size, he can average consistent 30 points, easy hook, midrange shot all game. But he wants to be Kevin Durant. Shooting Fadeaway 3s, One Leg 3s Bricks. His Body Type Looks like Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Victor Thighs and Legs are much skinnier than Kareem Thighs and Legs.
Only looking at blocked shots is lazy analysis. The dude is 7'4" and 300lbs. Nobody is gonna even try to attack him unless they got bad intentions. Edey will win ROY. Reed clearly isn't as ready as we hoped and has been dropped to #10 in the rotation. Cam earned more minutes. Jalen is now the secondary ball handler. Reed will get his chance ...it just doesn't look like it will be any time soon.
Victor makes Kareem look like Chris Bumstead. I would say he's more of the KD build. I hope he continues to have KD aspirations because he's way less effective when he's taking jumpers off the dribble ans trying to drive past wing defenders instead of dropstepping into a hook shot near the rim. He also just doesn't seem to have the conditioning to battle with an active defender. Just tiring him out is a good defensive scheme.
